Joseph Joseph’s

12 Aug 2010

I don't know about you but I like to use products that look good and are fun to use. Products that show they went through a thinking process. The following products seem to fit the aforementioned category. I just discovered them so I've not heard of Joseph Joseph before.

Joseph Joseph

According to the web site you can order their products and ship them to Belgium in 7 to 10 days. Not only the design attracted me but also their color usage, which shouldn't be a surprise. What follows are the descriptions as I found them on their web site.

The Elevate range of kitchen tools are designed to improve hygiene and minimize the mess made by placing mucky utensils onto kitchen surfaces. An innovative weighted handle with an integrated tool rest ensures that when an Elevate™ utensil is placed down, the head is always raised off the work surface. The Elevate™ range comprises of 6 essential tools, available individually or as a boxed gift set. Dishwasher safe.

Nest 8 series and Elevate

Nest 8

The Nest8 range is the ultimate collection of practical, space-saving kitchenware, comprising of mixing bowls, measuring spoons, a sieve, strainer and juicer. The unique design of the range allows the individual elements of each set to be stacked together, thereby occupying the absolute minimum amount of space. Available in white and a range of bright, vibrant colors.

Nest 8 comprises of eight essential kitchen items:

  • 4 x measuring cups
  • 1 x small mixing bowl
  • 1 x sieve
  • 1 x colander/strainer
  • 1 x large mixing bowl

All pieces are dishwasher safe.

This innovative, award-winning chopping board uses polypropylene 'living' hinges to achieve its transformation. Locked in the flat position, Chop2Pot provides a durable, knife-friendly cutting surface. But when the handle is squeezed, the sides of the board fold up, forming a chute down which diced and chopped food can be neatly guided. Never spill carefully chopped ingredients on the hob again! Dishwasher safe.

Index Plus

The Index Plus is an enhanced version of Joseph Joseph's multi-award-winning chopping board categorization system. Designed to reduce the likelihood of cross-contamination of different food types, Index Plus contains four individual chopping boards with four matching knives. Each chopping board is color coded and has its own illustrated tab, indicating which food type it should be used for. Each corresponding knife is also color-coded accordingly. With Index Plus you can prepare vegetables, raw meat and cooked food safely and separately. Dishwasher safe.

We had a Chop2Pot. It looks like a great idea, but in practice, it is difficult to use. It doesn’t work great as a cutting board because it refuses to flatten. It doesn’t work well for putting stuff in the pot because, when folded, it’s impossible to use a knife to scrape stuff from the board to the pot. My wife and I used ours 3-4 times and then threw it in the trash and went back to a normal cutting board. The flimsy plastic ones perform the Chop2Pot function better than the Chop2Pot, in my opinion.

I think these items sadly are more for decoration in your kitchen rather than practical use.

I love the colours though :)
