20 Essentials

If there is one word that I've come across multiple times it has to be pop-up. I'm sure it is a major contender for the next buzz word hype. The concept of these pop-up stores is that they are temporary stores just like the one Apple did in Austin during SXSW. The one I'm mentioning today is a bit close to home.

20 Essentials

20 Essentials that's the name of a pop-up store concept created by Cnocspot. It is a temporary store that is now open in Knokke, the Saint-Tropez of our Belgian coast. 20 Essentials opened its doors on July 15th and will remain in business until the 31st of August.

Carefully selected products

20 Essentials has two design experts as curators namely Moniek Bucquoye and Joost Vanhecke.

This world constantly brings new products onto the market. Many of these products are created for mass consumption and especially for the economic benefits which ensue for the manufacturers. At the basis of ’20 essentials’ lay the conviction that only a few of these products are actually capable of making the difference and of bringing added value to our lives.

The carefully picked products are chosen by the criteria of a 'little more' or a 'special twist'. The products are different in their concept, shape, material and functionalities and are an attempt to meet 20 of our most basic, daily needs, such as sitting, sleeping, transport, …

Confront and to question

One of the items picked by the curators is Big Table, designed by Alain Gilles for Bonaldo. The reason that they picked this table is its original design which makes it an icon. Another special one is the Overdose desk by Bram Boo. The presentation takes place in a rough, yet unfinished retail space. 20 Essentials main purpose is to confront and to question its visitors about their consumption and to think about 'their' essentials. It is also possible to purchase the items on site. A nice initiative.

20 Essentials, Kustlaan 56, 8300 Knokke-Heist, Belgium. Open from Wednesday till Sunday from 2-8pm. On Tuesday August 23 there will be a special POP-UP SOIREE that starts at 8pm and ends at 10pm.
