Sometimes it doesn't take very much to come up with an interesting idea. Shari Butalla from Marathon, Wisconsin, USA had such a vision and created something interesting for our walls. She only used wood and some paint to create unique modern, rustic wood art. Nothing is set in stone as it is possible to customize the size and colors of the piece that you had in mind. Perfect solution to add some color to an otherwise plain looking wall.
It's been some time but it's finally time for another Modern Home Design special edition where I share some of my favorite recent discoveries. This one has some design from Denmark, Belgium and more. I hope my little selection has your approval. Enjoy it after the jump.
The colorful '
Hang-it-all' by
Charles and Ray Eames is a timeless classic that has its origins in 1953. It was designed to entice children to hang their belongings on this festive rack with colorfully lacquered wooden balls. In 1997
Vitra decided to release it as a re-edition. Since then it has found its way into more children‘s rooms.
Fresh herbs, I like to use them as much as possible when I'm cooking. Only problem for me personally are the pots they are in now. They aren't exactly pretty to keep on the table in plain sight. So I started doing some research to find a better solution that pleases my designer eye. After some browsing I stumbled upon some really neat ones with a familar name.
British design has invaded
La Fabrika in Brussels in celebration of
Design September 2011 festival. This event presents the international brands that are on the Belgian market in the showrooms of agents and importers and in the emblematic design shops of Brussels. In
La Fabrika you can admire the work of Donna Wilson.
The product that I'll highlight today only exists out of one steel rail and three steel cubes and can be used to store CD's, DVD's, Books, … You can hang the boxes in any way you can imagine, this way you will never get bored easily by this flexible peace of furniture. QueB is a simple storage rack that is being ingeniously fixed to the wall, so none of the screws are visible.
If there is one word that I've come across multiple times it has to be pop-up. I'm sure it is a major contender for the next buzz word hype. The concept of these pop-up stores is that they are temporary stores just like the one Apple did in Austin during SXSW. The one I'm mentioning today is a bit close to home.
Finding a versatile working desk/table isn't easy as there is always something that has been overlooked. Personally I prefer the ones that make you hide the clutter. I can't function or be creative at a messy desk. The office solution we will talk about today fits within
Vitra’s Citizen Office theme that we talked about some time ago.
A few weeks back I talked about
Dieter Rams. There is another industrial designer that deserves a bit of attention as well. According to
Beoworld this designer has the greatest number of honors and awards in the world. More saying is that his work is displayed in permanent collections in museums across the globe.
The kitchen has quickly become one of the most important areas in a house. I personally prefer minimalistic styled designs. The one we will discuss today is spot on in that category. It seems the perfect kitchen when space is limited or when you are renting a place and you don't want to invest too much money and still have something nice to look at.
