What are you watching lately?

I always look forward watching 2 episodes of 24 on Sunday evening. It keeps you nailed to your chair, you almost start sweating by the tension and action during the episodes. I’ve never seen anything more thrilling as 24. Alias comes very close, but still, if I really have to choose which one is the most thrilling one I would say 24.
And boy, time flies! Before you know it you see the last seconds of that hour always ending with an open answer and a big question mark on what will happen next. Always when you think Jack Bauer or Kim are out of the woods, the next trap, threat or danger lurks around the corner.
We are watching the 2nd season of 24 here in Belgium and I must say the 1st season was really OK, but with this 2nd season it’s like the writers got the hang of it and dropped all boundaries.
If you do love series like 24 then you should definitely look at Spooks (probably called MI5 in the States). It’s the British answer to 24. It’s the top quality that we’re used to from the BBC, very exciting and realistic too. The big difference between the 2 is that Spooks is viewed from a European, British angle, it has a slightly different atmosphere. You even get to see the same effect with the smaller windows just like you see in 24 now and then but less. People who know both series might think that 24 is more excitement ALL the time, that’s because 24 is one story and you have to look from the start to be able to follow it. With Spooks you have 1 separate story for each episode. The beauty of Spooks is that it is very up-to-date, themes like searching for Al-Quada members, terrorist attack threats, or president Bush visiting Great Britain etc. Spooks is probably one of the best European action series ever made.
Every Monday evening I look forward watching a new episode of Spooks (Belgian TV, Canvas 10.25 p.m.). If you’re dead set on being a spy BBC2 and BBC3 are recruiting would-be secret agents. Do the first test here

24 is a fun series (or was anyways). My wife and I discovered it at the local movie rental outlet last summer. They were renting season 1 dvds for 3 for 5 dollars. Each dvd has 4 episdoes. WHAT A DEAL!!
You are right about the writers finding their groove in season 2; it is definitely more polished than season 1. Season 3 is a different story though. Maybe I just over-dosed on the series, watching far too much of it in a short period of time, but it at least seems like the writers were relying on exactly the same plot devices over and over again. I haven’t watched the new episdodes since October. :/
On a separate note, I love your site’s design!

I’m a huge fan of Jenniger Garner (Alias). :)

I’ve got season 1 of 24 on DVD. I missed the first couple of episodes of season 2, so I decided to avoid watching other episodes of season 2. I’m still waiting for the re-runs here in Holland.

I love 24 and it’s been like a drug for me since I watched the first episode of the first season.
Here in Italy we get the episode dubbed in italian, which in my opinion sucks because the original voices and their inflection are a thousand times more captivating.
Like Matt, I think I overdosed the second season and I found it less interesting and a bit more predictable than the first, but I’ve got the chance to see some episodes of season three and I got all my excitement back :)
Veerle, now you got me all curious about Spooks... I’ll try to find the episdes somewhere, since I don’t think it’ll ever be aired in Italy.

24 can be sort of a drug because I knew someone who watched entire season two on a Sunday ;-) With that said I am looking forward to the next two episodes. Personally I am also a fan of Six Feet Under and the Sopranos.

I managed to watch season 1 over the course of a weekend - absolutely wonderful. Still a fan, but - like some of the above comments - I’ve found the second and then third seasons to be increasingly less interesting. They really would do better if they could just leave his daughter off the series next year - they are starting to run out of situations in which she can be kidnapped.

Jamie, you are right about the role of Kim in 24 it’s becoming a bit annoying, I think 2 seasons is enough.
I’m looking forward to the next season of Six Feet Under, this is really my top favorite. It starts next week right after 24, oh boy Sunday night wil be TV-night alright!

The first season was awesome.
Up to season 4 now, hehe.

Have to say 24. Season 5 just started in the UK and it’s heating up already. Im enjoy Prison Break as well at the moment, too many shows to keep up with.
Anyone watch House? Really funny show!
