WDN Scholarships

2007 at 02.54 pm posted by Veerle Pieters

Maxine of Web Directions North just brought something really unique to my attention, a first timer in our industry. If you are a full time student in the field related to the web industry you better listen up!

30 lucky students

As conference organizers, speakers and attendees, Dave, Derek, Maxine and John have long been aware that while a good conference can be an unbeatable benefit for your career, they are definitely out of the price range of those in our industry who might benefit most - students. That's why they introduced scholarship pricing for students. 30 lucky students are able to buy conference seats at $195 (CDN) each.

Web Directions North - Vancouver, BC, Canada - Feb 6-10 2007

To qualify you must be a full-time student in a related field (design, computer science, or a specific web development course, for example) and not currently in professional employment. I can image that these babies will be hot so hurry and go to the registration page and enter the following code to receive your special discount: WDNSCH.

Looking forward to meet some new people and old friends in less than a month.

Wow! That is such a cool deal!  Even if I could afford the flight up there I’d be absent from my Web/Graphic Design Course. I hope I can be there next year!  WDN sounds like it would be an absolute blast!

Say, Veerle, are you going to WDN? (or something similar)  What was it like?

AHHHH!  I wish I qualified, but I don’t.  Cool stuff for the people who can go, and its in Vancouver.  Haha I’m a Canuk myself, so that makes me happy even If I can’t go.

Great deal, but I think that most students can’t afford transport to Vancouver, unless they are living close by, For me that would be 800 dollars for a flight ticket, what a pity…

Wow! Too bad I just finished my last term a couple of weeks ago.
I’ve been drooling over WDN for a couple of months now.
Have Fun all who go, this looks like an awesome opportunity!

Awesome chance for unproved genius. I hope there will be the same chance in my own country

Veerle,
I de-lurked only days ago, and here I am again. I am on a roll ; )

I get googly-eyed every time I visit the WDN site, which is frequently (I think my wife was becoming jealous). But I never dreamed that I would be able to attend. Thanks for telling us about it. I just bought my ticket.

I’ll see you in Vancouver!

John,
I Wish!
If I wasn’t just freshly given a position here, I might take you up on that.

Veerle, I too just de-lurked today. Of the 33 design and programming blogs that I have in my RSS feed, you were the lucky one! :)

John,
How recently can I have started for it to really count?
I’m still on a probational period, so my boss won’t fund it.

Andy,

aboveall its about hardship - we’ve put it together for this who simply couldn’t afford it any other way. In future we do hope to make it even more accessible, if we got a sponor we would have it include accomodation and maybe even some travel subsidy.

But that’s for future conferences most likely!

I would love to attend. But being in The Netherlands, makes it a bit expensive, even with the discount.

But I have four years remaining before finishing my study. So maybe one of the next years.

This is a great offer for students and I would love to attend this, but being in Belgium it would still be too expensive with the transport costing so much.
It is nice though that they think of students. I’ve already been to a similar event (JavaPolis) and I really enjoyed it.

Thank you for posting this! I’m so excited that they announced this scholarship discount. I’m an Informatics student at the University of Washington and have been drooling over this conference for several months now but the original price was way too much for me to afford. I’ve signed up using the scholarship and I’ll see you there! I’m pumped it should be a great conference.

Even with this discount it would still cost me around the same price as a regular ticket when you add the transportation, food, and lodging. But, I’m seriously considering going for that price. I just hope I’m eligible since I’m currently working full time as a co-op student.

I would be so happy to be there, only if the tickets to Canada weren’t so expensive. Maybe the next year, if I am more lucky.
