The new Duoh! logo identity
2007 at 10.27 am posted by Veerle Pieters
When we created the previous Duoh! logo, our main goal was to build a more serious approach. I believe it fits its purpose, but we now feel it’s time to move on and rethink our corporate image. Let me share my thinking process with you…
Brainstorming session
Geert and I were thinking that our current image didn't really fit the company we really are. The old Duoh! logo presented a serious corporate image based on our 3 areas : print, web and multimedia. The logo was very business like and less focussed on what Duoh! is all about: design and most of all being creative. We both agreed after some self-analyzing that we needed a logo that showed a more illustrated style. It should be creative, fun without overdoing it and a touch of humor. We do take our job serious but we do believe that creative people have a lot of imagination and that humor is an important factor in originality and being different. Besides poking fun of oneself is better than taking yourself too seriously :)
Doodling to get inspired
So I started sketching. Geert suggested me to think about a simple icon, so that we could use that as a single identity. The first idea was to do something with a typeface, with the "o" in the name.

While doodling I came to the idea of turning the "o" into a "cute" devil. I added devil horns and a devil's tail. I was also thinking of adding a very busy colorful background illustration that would reflect our creativity. My idea was to work with a vertical illustration border that is divided by the logo into 2 parts : the top had warm colors, representing passion, the passion for our work; the bottom part showing cold colors representing the "cool" and "chill" factor shown by water and other swirly forms.

Going back to our roots
It didn't look that bad, the creativity factor was there, but the illustration stole all the attention. If we deleted the illustration and looked at the naked logo, we still felt it was not what we were looking for. Then it hit me. Why not have "us" Geert and "I" in the logo? After all, the name came from being with 2, a couple, a "duo" in Dutch. The other "h" and "!" at the end was added because "duo" is too general and not really all that exciting for a creative business like ours. So I changed that into "Duoh!" which stands for "duo+oh!", the "oh!" is the reaction we hope people will have when they see our work :)

Designing the logo shape
Now that I got this new idea for the icon of the logo, I did some more sketching and doodling of couples, man and woman faces and such. When I had a few basic ideas on paper I tried them out in Adobe Illustrator. Most of the time I don't doodle very long for a logo. I want to try it out in Illustrator as soon as I have some basic ideas. Illustrator provides you the freedom and flexibility to play around and experiment with shapes all in a matter of seconds, minutes. Sometimes when I sketch on paper I wish I had this same undo option :) I'm so used to that.

Finalizing the logo shape
After playing around with shapes we ended up with a logo we both liked. I added bubbles and stars above our heads symbolizing the ideas we brew for each project and the magic we use to achieve that.
Choosing the colors
Personally I find it hard to choose colors for your own project. I end up with too many choices and being indecisive. Geert came to the rescue and the first 2 colors he chose were just perfect. They fit "us" and the office as well, since the grey is as good as the same color as the window frames of our new office. We are thinking of having our logo on one wall and maybe a light vertical illustration (of the bubbles and curls we use on our stationery) on the other wall next to our office windows.

Finding the right tagline
We thought to emphasize our new identity by adding a tagline. One thing was for sure, we didn't want a tagline just to have one and to sound hip or cool. We also didn't want a tagline that sounds serious, traditional, corporate or boring. We always believed we are different from our competitors. This is a tough job if you ask me since taglines are short, max. 3 or 4 words. Geert came up with this funny tagline I loved from the very first moment: "beauty & brains". We received the reactions we hoped for when we were wearing our Duoh! t-shirts at SXSWi. People found it smart and fun and some asked "So? Who's brains and who's beauty?" :) It looks like I'm brains, No? :P That was exactly the result we were hoping for. Of course we are referring to what we do, design is beauty and you need to use your (creative) brain to create smart design. After all design is about problem solving. Because of the logo icon this tagline has humor, and that's exactly what we wanted to achieve.
Stationery design
One thing we both agreed on was to add some illustrations in the stationery design. The mistake of making this far too overwhelming was still fresh in my head, so I decided to go for a light and subtle approach. What I did like about my first illustrations attempt was the curvy rounded vertical shapes. So I decided to reproduce the same idea. The result is much different and exactly what we both wanted.

We both believed by making this illustrative effect part of our image, it would emphasize our creativity even more. People would link Duoh! more to design and illustration. This was far from the case in our previous logo. The more serious approach is something that didn't work for us, because it's not who we are. We like to be taken serious in our job, but I believe our track record, years of experience, list of references is doing that for us and not our logo.
For the letterhead I can give you this little tip: don't forget to add a tiny line on the left side so you know where to fold. You can also add another line in the middle for punching holes for storage in a map.
What's next?
The task is upon us now to design the site and implement our new design into our invoice application and proposals etc. I'll keep you posted I promise.

How interesting! I really enjoy watching how other people reason when it comes to logo and identity design.
2
That’s gorgeous work, if I may say so. And it’s always fascinating to read about the design process, including ideas that didn’t survive.
3
You’ve done good!
4
Verry verrrrrrry cool.
I’m excited by what I see, Veerle.
Is that a Pantone Warm Grey?
A great post to go along with it, too!
Thanks for sharing! Anxious to see what you come up with for your duoh! site.
5
whow, thank you for sharing your thoughts on this project and this ended up… lovely!
6
I love it!!
7
Nice!
I think that the illustration on the first logo is cool, even if it did distract people from the point.
And the final branding is pretty spiffy.
8
Wauw,
Looks smashing and it’s interesting to see how your mind works when creating these things.
I would have probably gone with some sort of text-bubble that had it’s origin from the both of you with the company name in it.
The stationary design is very neat and exactly the sort of thing I really really like.
All in all, excellent work!!
9
Brilliant creative process that you have there! :) I really enjoyed that and your logo looks wonderful. Pity my design skills are so horrendous.
10
Awesome logo work Veerle…
11
It was a good choice, Veerle. My wife loves the shirt, btw, and has no problem letting people think that the “beauty & brains” tagline applies to her. ;)
The hot/cold concept #2 image is absolutely gorgeous. I hope you can recycle it into another use!
12
Awesome.
Where do you get your stationaries printed?
13
It looks really great Veerle! And it’s always interesting to see/read how branding elements come about… especially in regards to the progression/refinement.
14
Nice new look.
15
Veerle,
Congratulations, your new ID looks great. I can feel how fun and creative the process was for you both.
16
Thanks for the cool comments. I’m happy to hear you like the article ... and the logo as well :)

Glad you like it :) The colors of the logo are Pantone 7538 for the grey and Pantone 207 for the red fuchsia-like color.
Derek Jones said:
Yes that was my idea. I was planning on using this in an illustration. Actually, I didn’t totally finish the illustration either. If you look at the sketch you’ll see I skip a few things.
LOL! That’s funny :) Happy to hear she loves the t-shirt.

At Drukkerij Vuye, our printer for years now, located in Belgium, Oudenaarde (a city nearby Deinze). The best quality printer if I may say so. For those who wonder, yes, we designed their site (but not the logo in case you “also” wonder about that).
17
I enjoy Veerle’s blog but there’s one thing that prevents me from enjoying it fully: the images on your website rarely load completely and the front page always looks like a mess because of half-loaded / stretched images… =x
The page gets stuck when it tries to load s19.opentracker.net
18
it’s a great leap, as the current duoh! really don’t reflect what you can do - this blog give it a KO.
I hope you post pictures of the finished office too…
19
Hai veerle,
Am a regular to your blog, I love the way you write down the details.
But I have a different opinion about the logo. I really appreciate the way you describe the work and help me very much.
But I think the new logo is way too much crowded. Just its my thought. Maybe if you rearrange the letters and the boy-girl head in a different way, it will be better.
Thanks
20
Thanks for this breakdown! I’m working on revamping our identity (we are also a ‘couple’/duo) and it’s a struggle. Loved reading the idea behind the name of your company as well as the thoughts behind repositioning your image to more accurately reflect what you do and how you want to convey yourselves.
Finally, I like how the end result looks significantly different in both execution and style than other marks out there. With so many people riding the “web 2.0 style wave” with their logos, yours is refreshing, but also timeless :)
21
Hey veerleeeee!
I love it!
22
Hi Veerle
As I was looking at the Flickr pics of your corp. ID. When I design envelopes I always think about the specifications “de Post” is giving designers (http://www.post.be/site/nl/letters/normalisation.html).
E.g. Put nothing in a 15mm zone from bottom, left and right side of the envelope?
Apparently you didn’t. Don’t you have any trouble?
23
Thank you so much for sharing the process to get to the product. It’s always helpful and interesting to see how people work and not just the final product.
Gorgeous logo, too. Evocative and simple and lovely.
24
The new logo looks great. I love how you go into depth about your design process. :)
25
I like it :D I really do. Right from the start I did. You did a good job Veerle. I think it fits Duoh! very well, or at least it fits you, looking at the styles of your creations. It’s both professional and creative, exactly what you were looking for.
26
Really nice work. Veerle, could you tell me what application you use for invoicing ? I’m looking for an app that let me design my invoices/quotes.
Thanks
27
WOW! Beautiful. Thank you for sharing your thought process on designing your new logo. Love the tag line.
Personally I don’t find it too crowded. Looks perfect.
28
As usual the best blog for designers with lots of ideas is veerle.duoh.com. The logo is awesome!
29
So I guess this means all of the stuff you handed out at SXSW’07 is instant vintage now?

Check your mail :) Basically this comes down to a security blocking issue that affects Firefox on Windows. Mostly it’s ZoneAlarm that thinks it’s advertising.

I would understand your point if you are referring to the back of the business card where you have the illustrations on both sides. Ideally some more space would make it even better, but it’s not disturbing for me. The photo actually makes it look more busy than it is in real life.
Mathieu said:
I think you misinterpret this schemata. This one is showing the area where the address needs to be in. Never had any trouble with this composition. If you take this literally it would mean that you can’t place the logo at the top right corner like everybody does.
Stijn said:
Nope because I only handed out my blog cards :) The new ones weren’t ready when we had to leave for SXSWi. Only the lucky ones who already have a Duoh! T-Shirt with a the new logo had an exclusive :D
31
I love the logo, and I really appreciate the way you describe the process!
32
Wow, how beautiful. That logo is superb. It’s fancy, yet not complicated… I really like it.
33
Looks great! Well done Veerle, I admire your talent
34
I just wonder:
1) Is it stressing to read all those comments ?
2) Those curls and spirals you drew… were made with the spiral tool ? or with the pen ?
35
Great job on this Veerle! Gah, I’m still mad at myself for not having cash on me to grab a shirt from you after our panel. (Are they still on sale by the way?) Anyway, it’s great to see that the identity ended up encapsulating you and Geert. It always feels better like that, when you look at it and know that it signifies your bond.
Jen and I used to have a mark like that, well… I lost it somewhere in my hard drive, but it was for a dual-“blog” called “Konokoi” which is Japanese for “this love.” Maybe when we finally set a date, I’ll have that identity ready.
Anyway, not to take away from the subject, I’m excited to see the new site come up, and I am simply floored by the illustration of the first one, a lot like the people that have already commented. Great job as always, and I hope I can still grab a shirt! :D
36
The devil “o” reminded me of a logo i spotted last month at logopond.com for the Adultshop :)
Like most people here, I really like reading about the creative process and watch the sketches that followed the path to the result.
Nice one!
37
Thanks Veerle, it’s always great to read about the creative process… very inspiring. I’ve placed a link to this article on my blog (to spread the good word!)
38
It took me a while to get used to it, but I really do like it now. You’ve amazed us once again with your talent. Thanks for sharing the process as well. ^__^
39
It’s so close! But with the heads overlapping and the bubbles and stars flowing up it looks a little like you’re either drunk or you’ve just clunked your heads together. More D’oh! than Duoh! Of course, it’s way better than I could do so who am I to talk?
40
thanks for letting us in on the process, cool to see someone’s rational of the design and end product.
Another great article.
41
Mooi mooi mooi!
The middle one underneath “Choosing the colors” reminds me a bit of hicks his (already one year old!) top notch logo (a).
42
Hi Veerle,
Your new logo is very cool! The little face figures are neat and are in the same feeling as the modern, rounded-edged font you use. I really liked all the variations on the Duoh! figure icons too - especially the 2nd and last ones. Glad you also found a way to incorporate your swirly vine into the background of the stationary and business cards. It is very appropo to your illustrative talents, I think!
(I didn’t think the devil idea was quite on quite target for your logo, although it is a neat illustration and clever with the tail wrapping around the u.) The fun logo idea is definitely much better than having a bland corporate image!
43
I really like everything about the new logo design, but you may want to consider swapping the male outline and female outline. It seems like the male outline and the female outline should be in the same order (left to right) as the tagline “Beauty and Brains.” Unless, of course you are implying that Geert is the “Beauty” and you are the “Brains.” :-)
44
Great coverage, and nice-looking logo! Looking forward to the redesign.
45
the new logo is especially apt given your company’s style, have always wondered why the ‘corporate’ site is so different from this one.
anyway always enjoyed your ‘tutorials’ entries so looking to more in the future:)
46
love it. inspiring.
47
wow! beautiful logo design. i liked the fire and frost type design better tho :P everything is perfect. even the colors you chose :)
48
So much better than the old logo for all of the reasons that you stated in the blog. I always thought, “hmm… so, if Veerle is so creative (which I know she is), why does the Duoh site feel so creatively stifled”
Not that it looked bad, it just didn’t have the same feel as everything else you do.
But now, I love the new design. It’s Tres Veerle. :)
49
Your design—cute, unique and original—and the process is intriguing and appreciated.
Thank you for sharing!^^
50
Love the new identity Veerle! It’s got a great personality about it.
Just wondering how you went about selecting the colors for your new logo and stationary? Did you use a Pantone guide anywhere in the process?
51
Omg. I always enjoy your posts, but this one really blew my head off. I really enjoy the ideas and stories behind logos.
And all the sketches are a real good addition.
Thanks for explaining it. Really love the logo too…it’s kinda sexy :-)
52
Very good work on the redesign of the logo Veerle.
Personaly I didn’t like the previous logo of duoh, it was like a telecom or internet provider logo.
This new logo is really you and geert. Great work!
53
Cool… nice logo…
54
Veerle, nice writeup! But the new logo doesn’t tick for me. It is very nicely designed, but my brain keeps on associating it more to a Cosmetics Product or Hair Dresser or such than to a graphic-design office - especially with the Tag-Line “Beauty and Brains”. I also believe it’s a little too crowded - too many elements. In a print AD, this Logo would cost you quite some money with the space it takes up. And the taken space also needs quite some brainpower to realize all the different elements and get them together in the viewers brain…
Just trying to offer constructive criticism.
55
Erg mooi!
Wish I was this good, just have to keep convincing myself that “practice makes perfect”...
56
Very nice, simple yet elegant.
57
Thank you so much for sharing your creative process with us. I really enjoyed it. It’s inspiring!
58
could u do some wallpapers out of the new CI elements plz? like the grey version of ur business cards??? would be awesome i think…
59
awesome! i really liked the “fire and ice” look.. but i see what you’re saying about the illustrations stealing the show. the guy/gal combo is a bit more grounded especially with the tag line…
me likies lots!

It’s always a bit of a gamble what people think of it. After all it’s been judged by so many people.
I’ve used both, the spiral for the initial shape and the pen for the little bit of tweaking to connect all lines together and have a smooth transition into the vine.
Bryan Veloso said:
We’ll do a reprint because of the request. I only did a small amount. I didn’t expect that many people who wanted to buy a t-shirt.
This is a nice name :)

I guess it’s interesting that people see different things in the logo. The overlapping makes it much nicer in my opinion, it’s also referring in how good and how close we work together, we kind of melt into each other, our connection etc.
Bramus! said:
I just thought I show what I did in the process but I never had the intention on actually using that. It’s the same with the flowers I’ve been doodling, the ice-cream etc. I just experiment and do (draw/doodles) what comes into my mind and while doing that you get to a new idea. At the point I was drawing the one you were referring to I remember I was thinking of adding some illustration art but then I realized it was becoming less a logo and an illustration and so I added the spiral vines instead.
Jason said:
I see what you mean, but it’s not that I “want” people to think that straight away. I think I let the people decide on that part, that’s just the fun as well :) If I’m on the left and Geert is on the right then this question doesn’t pop up, so in a way it’s less fun, less humor. It’s too late anyway since it’s all printed.

We use a Pantone color guide. I have the previous version of the Pantone Designers Survival Kit, which includes several Pantone guides: solid coated, solid uncoated and solid matte and also process coated and process uncoated. There is also 1 additional guide that shows both solid and process, so you see the Pantone solid color with next to it the process values.
Stefan Seiz said:
Everybody has his own opinion on how he sees the logo. I wouldn’t design this logo for what you are referring to though, it doesn’t reflect this subject well enough. I also think that you are analyzing this way too deep. I also don’t understand why this logo would cost more, it’s the colors that will rise the cost in print, the elements have nothing to do with that. If I would decide on doing ads (not that I ever will) it’s better to do it big and repetitive otherwise there will be no effect. For me it would be a waste of money that is better spend elsewhere.
61
Interesting design process story and nice result ( a little bit to fancy though ).
62
Incredible job Veerle - I love the illustration work.
63
Outstanding in every aspect. Thank you for sharing your talent as you always do! The logo perfectly sums up Duoh! and your style of illustration which also sums up the tag line beauty and brains! Awesome
64
Love the new logo. It’s so much better than the old one. I also like your blog site much better than your business site, it shows your progression as a designer.
For those of us who have not had a chance to attend one of the events where you spoke, any chance you can post pixs of the marketing materials you use for your blog? I would be curious to see the card you mentioned. I am in the process of updating my site with Expression Engine and need to redo all the branding/identity pieces.
Thanks!
65
I really love reading about the process, especially since I’m about to embark on a rebranding project myself.
The final outcome is just lovely! You’ve done an excellent job. How long did the process take you, or has this been an ongoing project between other things?
66
Hi Veerle :)
I just loved this entry, and I thought it would work perfectly for my students’s blog. So I wrote an entry about this. I hope it doesn’t bother you:
http://disenemos.blogspot.com/2007/04/rediseando-una-imagen.html
My students are designing their own logo. I bet it would be very inspirational for them :)
67
I love your work on that identity. Actually, I was wondering just the other day, when you were planning to redesign Duoh!...
68
Thank you very much for the info Veerle! I’ve always wondered where I could get a good Pantone guide. And I ordered the Pantone Designers Survival Kit on your recommendation!
69
The interesting thing about logos is the fact that everyone seems to have a set of rules for how they should look.
I absolutely love when people expand on the “rules” and go the extra mile to think about how the logo will reflect on their coporate image. That’s the point after all.
So I love your design. And with all the explainations into what it means, it makes the logo that much more special for you, your company and your clients.
Good job on making it reflect what you wanted it to. I really like it and think it captures what Duoh! is all about!
70
You’re so gracious. I expressed myself so hastily and clumsily in my earlier comment. I am not a designer. I am not even a design student, other than paying attention to anything design-related I can come across in the past 2 years or so. So there’s no way for me to show you this without coming off as arrogant, but I’ll risk it…
For your consideration.
71

Pure in production time not that much I think. I think a few afternoons were spent, but we took a lot of time to decide over things. We let things rest for a while. After a week or 3 we looked at the logo with the devil icon again and the illustration and threw it out of the window. I think 2 months went by in total. We took long breaks in between stages. It’s a good thing if you can do this. When designing logos for clients this is hardly or never the case.
Hasan said:
Thanks for the effort here but I don’t think I would replace the logo with your version. I looks nice though, but you see, it’s like I’m taking all the attention now. I’m really in front of Geert, so it’s not an equal collaboration anymore. Geert and I have both qualities that compliment each other so well. The overlapping lines reflect this perfectly in my opinion.
73
Hi Veerle,
thanks for sharing that, some designers can be over precious, or perhaps over protective of their idea development. I like the fact that straight away you went for a lowercase ‘d’ for douh, the capital D before just doesnt work when you look at it now and compare that with your design ethos.
74
I love it! Mostly perhaps the overlapping lines of you two, since I read the explanation of that. It’s not one of you two standing in front of the other, but you’re both equal though different :) It’s really nice Veerle.
75
Congratulations, I like it. It looks cute and simple, it may even be smart for a wedding :)
That’s cool Veerle and thank you for sharing this.
76
Veerle: I’ve been lurking a long time, but finally commenting to say thanks for displaying your creative process, not just this post but others as well. Always informative.
I love seeing how other designers “think” while they create. Wish more would publish their process in this way but know it’s not it easiest to “put it all out there.” Thank you for doing so. Looking forward to seeing the new site!
77
Simply beautiful, and a great case study. I’m going to share this with others.
78
I agree, a new corporate identity was needed.. and i must congratulate you both on a job well done :)
The new (C)ID suits the company and its vision far better. Lots of succes in the future :)
79
great. ist the style I love.
Can you tell me which font you used?
And btw veerle, can you write some atricles about fonts? how you work with fonts, how you use them, whitch is/are your favorite… where/how you buy it.
I love this one (font).
80
Love the new style and design, Veerle!
Very good job!
I’m looking forward to see the redesigned website as well.
81
This is probably a dumb question, one that’s probably answered somewhere, but what does “Duoh” mean? What’s its significance? Is it a word in a language I don’t understand? Equivalent to duo in English perhaps?
82
Very nice read. It is surprising that you didn’t do more than 2-3 ideas on paper before deciding on the final logo. I usually do more than a dozen and finalize at least 6 before I decide.
83
I enjoyed reading about your process and realizing how far apart the initial drafts and the final logo are, was an interesting insight into not focussing too much on what there already is.
However, I still have this uncomfortable feeling when looking at your logo. It seems to have a bit too many elements, or maybe there is a link missing between the name-tag and the too people…
84
It is nice to see the process involved in making a logo. I’m more of a web developer so I don’t get into that end too much but it sure is enlightening! The logo looks great and seems to emphasize the personal nature of the business. It’s cool.
85
Wow, these designs are unbelievable! Thank you so much for sharing these.
86
Thanks for sharing the process with us. I like the result very much. It is perfect. Clean, light, stylisch and recognisable. I would love to have a logo that great for my website.
87
Beautiful! Nice job!
Congrats… :D
88
This logo is just wow! It’s lovely as always. I like that clean lines.
It’s amazing to see how an idea grew and eventually became the result we can see here.
Thank for sharing this with us. ;)
89
Hi Veerle,
Nice, very nice. Your new design, in my opinion, is a vast improvement over your previous one. It has multiple levels of meaning and is an appealing visual metaphor. Thanks for sharing your design process, you’re a good teacher.
90
Hi Veerle, great article: it’s very useful to see how someone else works through logo design and the thoughts they have.
In particular it was interesting to find out where you got the name from. Honestly, the first thing I thought of when I read “Duoh!” was Homer (of The Simpsons) going “doh!” I wonder how popular The Simpsons are in your neck of the woods, and whether this has been brought up before. I think this would make for an interesting analysis of how brands are perceived in different cultures.
There, I just ran out of my 2 cents for the day:)
91
Wow, just wow!
The design is absolutely beautiful.
I already liked the first design with the devilish ‘O’ but the final logo just blows me away.
Thanks for sharing your thinking and working process, this kind of stuff really inspires me! :)
92
Thanks for this indepth look at your process, not to mention the fantastic outcome of your new logo, and entire identity system.
I didn’t read everyone elses comments, but I did skim through a couple, and I also wanted to add my two cents, and say I agree with your decision of having the intersecting lines, it really brings you both together helping unify the logo, and both of ya’ll as a team. It adds alot of character as well, because the line quality in the illustration works well with the weight of the font.
93
I’ve always been interested in the design process, and this is no exception. It was an interesting read :)
I was wondering what typeface you used for the logo. It’s wonderfully rounded!
94
I’m glad I am not the only one who always thinks of Homer Simpson when I see your business ident - and I don’t even watch The Simpsons!
I like the new design although the ‘beauty & brains’ tagline I have my doubts about; understanding what it means and how it evolved though has been very enlightening.
95
Love the evolution and the final presentation. Great stuff.

96
Beautiful, congratz!
97
Great work on the design Veerle, looks awesome!
98
Excellent search of logo identity
99
I really love it, nice logo :)
100
Nice work, Veerle! I like the way you took to get your new logo, excellent composition. Good luck!
101
Thanks for Inspiration, Veerle!
Bedankt voor de inspiratie!

102
Awesome Work… & great post to read…
103
Looking forward to the new site.
104
It must be my North American bias but I never realized your company name referred to Duo. I have always thought it said Doh! or Duh! and just assumed it was a translation or pronounciation thing I was missing. Good times! Love seeing the process though - the final product is great.
105
That looks awesome!! Wow. Great work!!

It’s well-designed, but it looks like a business card for a beauty salon, in my honest opinion.

The way you write your posts allways want to start a creating process myself. Thanks for taking me on this tour du design -Veerle style :)
It’s a great logo! I like the way you put the company’s philosophy into a neat contemporary design.

Some comments if I may…
Your logo exists of 5 different elements: the heads, the circles, duoh!, the tagline and the twirls. The logo literally falls apart into pieces. The 5 different elements don’t give me the feeling they are part of a whole. Too bad, because that’s really essential for a strong logo.

This all sounds good in theory, but if you create a lot of logos you would know this isn’t always possible in the real world. Certainly if you want to keep your logo original. Not all logos can be reduced to a whoosh or a dot or something that stands on its own. I don’t believe our logo falls apart. If you take just the 2 faces and leave the rest out it’ll still be recognizable. If I would show the heads alone I’m sure people would still know it’s Duoh! because recognizability comes from exposure: why does everybody know the Nike whoosh because it’s so well-known worldwide, same for the Coca-Cola line etc.

Inspiring!
Thank you, Veerle, for describing the whole process, from ideas to sketching on paper to sketching in your favorite graphic design app to the final variants:)
It was very interesting to follow you on that journey:)
