Beagle 2 of ESA is still missing and not sending images back to earth but NASA has more luck with it's Mars mission. The first US rover - called Spirit - landed on at Mars at about 0435 GMT today.

The "robotic geologist" will be followed down in late January by its twin, Opportunity. Their mission is to examine their landing sites for past environmental conditions that may have been conducive to life.
