Nude Tempo One

2005 at 04.56 am posted by Veerle

It’s Friday, almost weekend so time for some relaxing and laid back Chill out with a taste of Soul and Funk. For me this kind of music is ideal when I’m trying to find some creativity. The CD Nude Tempo One is a release from March 2002, so a while ago but still a great asset to your collection.

Nude Tempo OneMost of the clichs when you think of music from the US is that it is R&B or rock, but that’s certainly not the case with San Francisco’s based Naked Music.

This album is mixed by Santa Cruz DJ Miguel Migs. Miguel Migs has been busy producing and remixing tracks under his Petalpusher alias, he even remixed a track for Britney Spears called Stronger. The biggest difference between Nude Tempo and any previous Naked Music release is its heavy use of dubbed-out vocals. Miguel Migs trademarks are bouncy bass lines and four-on-the-floor beats. Miguel has put together a selection of the finest tunes out there.  A few seconds into the first track and you know you are in the “Naked” universe.

music icon Let the voyage begin and listen to a compilation of some of the tracks.

The album gives a relaxing, dreamy and inspiring mood. You can listen to this album anytime of day because it is so laidback yet so upbeat. I have played this album over and over again. Naked Music, under their new partnership with Astralwerks, hasn’t lost its knack for finding some of the grooviest tunes in the land, and there is plenty more where that came from; so watch out my blog for more of this kind of music.

Let me bluntly recommend some more artists in the Chill Out genre;
St. Germain, they’re the kings of Chill Out imao, it’s so easy to listen to, it’s so pretty, it’s just great, not too slow not too fast eiter. Perfect balance.
Air, ofcourse, I don’t think this needs an explanation. And if you like it, you should really watch The Virgin Suicides, Air did most of the soundtrack and it’s just beautiful.
Aphex Twin, they’ve got some harder stuff but their compilation album The Selected Ambient Works is very nice, it sounds a bit like the Metroid Prime (Gamecube) soundtrack but with alot more variation.
Beastie Boys, yes, the Beastie Boys, they made a beautiful instrumental album called The In Sound From Way Out, you will absolutely love it.

This are imao a couple of thé essential Chill Out albums/artists, you should (must! :P) check these out if you’re in to Chill Out :)

haha veerle, after your tiësto-related post I was very much questioning your taste in music but this sorta makes up for it :)
ps: his ‘harder’ work is even better.

Re: Beastie Boys “In sound from way out” - Definately a good choice!

Miguel Migs is a great artist. I have one of his songs from a compilation I got from Godiva called Melt (by the way, it’s a great compilation to pick up [I think they still sell]). The song is called Breakin’ It Down. I loved it so much I got more from him on the iTMS.

When I finally stopped eyeing your web design and actually read your blog entry, I downloaded your compilation. Sounds pretty cool. I might have to run to the store and buy myself a copy. Thanks for the compilation though, otherwise I might have had to download it and then never buy the CD myself.

If you like Miguel Migs. Be sure to check out Sven Van Hees, our Antwerp pride. He does productions for Naked Music to and knows what house is all about.

Cheers!

@Thun: Thanks for the recommendations but Air isn’t one of my favorites but their album “Premiers Symptõmes” isn’t bad and on “Moon Safari” I’ve found some decent tracks. In this particular genre I like Zero 7 or Bent a lot more. I have to agree with you on St. Germain. Sorry Beastie boys doesn’t cut it for me.

But Miguel Migs is still a greater artist in my opinion. Air is too black, not uplifting at all. I’ll try to arrange an interview with the grandmaster of chill Bruno from Café del Mar. If you want to find out what TRUE chill means listen to his chillhouse mixes. It seems I have a lot of work to do to learn you all what chill really is ;-) An afternoon at Savanah (looking at the sea, enjoying some sun) in Ibiza can also teach you a thing or two. Will make some more compilations available in the future.

@Seba: I have some tracks by Sven van Hees and I like his style. Comes close to the perfect chill out mood.

@harvey: San Francisco is great and I’m jealous. Would love to go there again ;-) Check some other Naked stuff while you’re there like Aya for example. A great voice!

@ekrem: It isn’t that bad, but maybe I should introduce myself to them so that in next revision I can give it a shot :-) I already bought Gaelle from the iTunes Music Store. They keep on adding cool naked stuff there.

This is awesome, I didn’t think there was so much interest in down-tempo, dub, easy house and chillout from so many of Veerle’s Blog visitors.

Miguel Migs is an awesome recommendation Veerle. And you are right about Air - very dark and very right for the movie ‘Virgin Suicides’, I still love their work though.

I am not sure if you guys checked out Dj Kicks, Thievery Corporation, Nightmare on Wax Label, Rodney Hunter, Kurder and Dorfmiester...i could go on, but do check these lables and artists out, they produce some of the grooviest and chill music ever!

But yeah - I really need to make it to Ibiza *jealous of Veerle*
