New York City
2008 at 01.11 pm posted by Veerle Pieters
I am just back home and trying to fight off this jet lag thing. After being away for 3 weeks in the US it feels good to be back home again. Now trying to sort out the huge backlog of email and startup working again. Before trying to resume regular things here I want to share the pictures that I took in New York City.

Ghaaa you make me wanna go back. I could walk around in Manhatten for days and days and days… I love the atmosphere you got there!

Really nice pictures of New York! But i’m not a little bit jealous since i’ll be in New York in 15 days and then i can take my own pictures there! I’m really excited about it because i’ve never been there before and your pictures give me some nice impresssions about the city!

Wow, beautiful photos! They are awesome!
5
Very nice pics… and weather… Welcome back in Belgium…

I think New York is one of those places you never hear someone say, “It’s nothing like they show in the movies.” I haven’t been, but from what people tell me—and from your beautiful photos—I have a feeling it’s even more awesome in real life. I think the plaza is one of my favorite buildings to look at (I favorited that one)!

Hi Veerle!
I gotta say you are as good a photographer as a designer, if not more.
Really cool photos of NYC.
8
Glad you had a great time here in the Big Apple and your photos actually show that. Great warm tint on them.
9
Nice photography :) Welcome back ;)

hey!welcome back.the photos you took in New York city are masterpieces. It makes me feel as if I had been to New York city ever, though I haven’t been to there actully. I like the one titled as Great breakfast place in New York, because I saw that there are some chopsticks in it.
11
Wow such great colors in the photos.
12
These pictures are great. I especially like the warm tones you chose and the tasteful lens flares. Would you care to share your post processing techniques? I’m imagining mostly photoshop… The sharpness and tonal range is excellent.
13
Thanks, Veerle, for these photos. For various reasons, I live a few thousand miles away, but spent many years living in or near Manhattan. In my heart I will always, always be a New Yorker.
14
Great pictures !
Very inviting to go and visit the city that never sleeps
15
Beautiful shots, Veerle! Are they cross-processed? The colors really are stunning.
(and great seeing you in Austin, BTW!)
16
Fantastic photos, a great set to complement your San Francisco shots, Great colours and shadows, it would be great if you shared some tips on your photography.
17
The weather sure looks better then at home :-)
18
Beautiful pictures. Now I’d like to travel.
19
Damn, really great colors.

Verle, i - just like Jarrard - am also curious about your post processing. I guess it is basicaly what you once posted here. But besides the technical background, i would like to know your reasoning for choosing such a vintage effect? The pics really look like the old color prints i have showing me as a kid in the sixties. So i connect the this kind of look to my past and youth.
Why do you chose this effect with the off colours?
21
Excellent photos. Going to check them out in Flickr to study what camera settings you are using : )
Really enjoying these recent “photo trip posts” - keep up the good work.
22
Fantastic photos..I will have to try Penelope’s one day. Bonne Soup is another great place to eat for anyone visiting New York. Love the aqua sky photo!
23
Wow! That’s beautiful pics! I really want to come there!
24
I heart N.Y.
25
Awesome!
I particulary love the 2nd pic…when your cam grabs sun light directly, it creates some beautiful colors around it!
26
Have you visited the Lower East Side as well? It’s way more inspiring than the highlights you’ve photographed. Although those are worth seeing as well ;-)
Anyway, see FLickr for some pics of LES:

The pictures are great. They look like you took them at sunset. The darker side of NY City :)
28
Nice photo’s Veerle, high resolution as well. Any disclosure on the camera? Just curious.
Good to know you had a great time and nice weather, now it’s back to flemish reality :)
29
Great photographs, I really enjoyed them. I hope that your time in New York/the US was as good as it looked in your pictures.
30
I must ask u veerle what art you don’t know?
nice combositions…
31
Nice pics and effects. In fact, I’ve dared one of my friends, who’s recently gone to US, to click better pics than these. :)

Great photos!!!
And great blog page!!! With valuable tips.
Thank you for cheering me up every time I read your posts.
36
Why does London look so awful compared to New York, we have a lot to learn! The photo of Apple is great, you should sell it to them!
37
Awesome pictures from NYC, as my work partner here said: people take so many photographs from new york, but they all look the same.
Yours are nothing like the others.
i really like it. =)
38
What kind of camera did you use these photos. They are spectacular!! Have you had any training in photography or is this just you taking snapshots?
39
Awesome photos!
How did you get those great colors?
40
Good photos, you definately have that “creative eye” !
41
Any photos from the east village or LES? These pics are great?

They are post processed in Photoshop by playing with curves.

Fantastic pics, love the colour!
44
The Second image is very nice. Nice lighting. Love the PS

Awesome looking city; probably THE city that I want to visit in my lifetime that I’ve yet to achieve. I was due to travel out there in early October 2001, but that was curtailed for tragically obvious reasons.
I’m not particularly interested in architecture as such, however magnitude and history of some of those buildings is utterly spine-tingling.
After seeing this post I’m definately going to get myself out there sooner rather than later.
P.S
Excellent photography by the way! :)

i tried to emulate the adjustments and color techniques you used here (they are post processed in Photoshop by playing with curves???) and i’d love to see a more detailed description or tutorial on how to achieve the same effects using my own photos. how did you get the vivid greens and browns?
