New blog look finally online
2004 at 07.35 am posted by Veerle
Finally I got my new blog online. It took a bit more time then I thought because of all the self-study that I needed to do to get things going. No more hassles with iBlog and it will render much faster too. I’ve used the newest techniques like XHTML 1 and CSS2 to achieve a “cleaner” result ;-)
This site follows the W3C guidelines and I’m very proud of it. It took some sweat and tears but it was all for a good cause since one of my promises to myself is that I’m going to use the CSS techniques I’ve learned as much as I can when building sites for clients. It will be my (small) contribution to a standard compliant web!
Don’t hesitate to become a member on my blog because members will get some benefits in the future ;-)

Congrats with the new blog, it looks fabolous!! I’m also working on a new blog (pMachine Free) and a new homepage. It’s a lot of work, but that’s something I don’t have to tell you. ;)
Go on like this!

Really nice style! I’m also determind to learn CSS throughtly this year. By coincidence I found you while looking for css tutorials. I’m also designing my new blog, but haven’t decided on the layout yet ;-)
Hey, by the way your style is very ALA inspired. I liked their style a lot too. But your icons are beautiful! And I love the callendar.
Good Work! and congrats…

Thanks for the compliment ;-) It must me the colors of my site that does people remind of ALA, you are the second person who mentions this and it’s weird since I got to know this site after I finished my design in Photoshop and looked on the web for css resources. But anyway I take it as compliment since I like the ALA website a lot.
If you learn css I can only advice you not to give up if you are stuck on something… I have been driving myself made when I created this site and see the result now… if you don’t give up you’ll get there! The best way to learn (if you know already the basics of css of course) is to look how other css websites are built, analyze the css etc. and learn from it, experiment etc. That’s how I did it and still do if I’m onto something new. And remember, I’m still a newbie on this matter too.

Hej. Great site, I’ve been wondering for ages if there were actually people in Belgium/Flanders with good websites (that validate XHTML Strict and CSS) and with good content and here it. Your site kicks so much ass :-) I’m putting it in my bookmarks between Zeldman/Stopdesign/Simplebits etc. I guess you’re even the first European to make it into my “real” bookmarks :-)

Hi Fabian, I know there aren’t much (none I know of) who design sites with advanced css. But I saw so much good things that I really wanted to learn this. I’m designing a lot of governmental websites (for Library of Congress, Washington DC) and I really need this since I need to follow strict rules, so this is the perfect way ;-) On my www.duoh.com website you can see an overview of the work we did (or go to loc.gov/learn/features (most sites featured in the table list).
Thanks so much for adding me in your bookmarks, I’m flattered.
Next on my list in the Duoh! website, the design is already in process… but time to get it moving is a problem at this moment :-S

Excellent pMachine site. :)

Your redesign is really gorgeous! I wish there were permalinks on posts, though. They exist (I can get to the individual posts through the various archives) but the posts themselves on the index page don’t seem to have a copyable permalink. I couldn’t find a way to email you about it, either ;)

Not sure what the meaning is of those permalinks ... I’ve seen them on other blogs but what is the use of this? Because if you click on the comments link, you see the same content as in a permalink and my archive gives a nice overview of all my posts. If you click on a link of a post then you get the same page or content of a permalink. That’s why I wonder why I would need to add this.

Hi,
The blog is great. I’ve completed the tutorial you offerred and have a design for my blog based on your tutorial. But, have you written an explanation for a complete newbie about how to upload to a service such as dotMac?
Thanks for a great site with creative information and challenges.

@lhollon: Uploading your pages to your dotMac is easy. When you are in the “Finder” use the menu “Go”. There you’ll see “iDisk” with a submenu. Choose “My iDisk” and wait a moment until you see a Hard disk icon with a blue ball on your desktop. Double click that icon and go to the folder “Sites”. Drop everything in there and don’t forget that your homepage is the “index.html” file. Good luck and show us the url ;-)
