2005 at 08.27 am posted by Veerle Pieters

Good news from Apple! New iPod models have arrived today... which makes my pink mini model a little bit 'older', but hey, life goes on and that's how it goes with technology: always, bigger, faster, better etc. for less money.
- iPod Mini 4 GB Eur 199 / $ 199
- iPod Mini 6 GB Eur 249 / $ 249
- iPod 20 GB Eur 329 / $ 299
- iPod Photo 30 GB Eur 359 / $ 349
- iPod Photo 60 GB Eur 458,99 / $ 449
So for those who have been waiting or doubting maybe now is the good moment:

Hey -
I think it’s great what apple does concerning the iPod, but I still seem to missing the point to the ipod-photo-hype. Don’t get me wrong, I adore my 40gb “classic” iPod but I can’t see why apple ever made the photo-version: small screen and space for a lot of photo’s, nifty gadget but not enough to name a whole iPod after it… iPod, PDA - one day they will all be the same… i think… i hope :-)

That’s not ‘older’, thats retro chic ;-)
BTW, your comment box seems to be half a mile wide or so on this machine (WinXP SP2, Firefox 1.0)
Cheers, Olly.

BTW - Ziepe, IIRC the iPod photo has TV out, so with a bit of cleverness you can do slideshows with musical accompanyment - even to the point of using it as a basic PowerPoint/Keynote type tool.
Before I knew that though, I couldn’t see the point- except that its these gimmicks and extras that sell the iPod over and above rival products.

@Olly: Yes, retro chic sounds better ;-)
About this form in Firefox: Let me guess you have been playing around with your fonts haven’t you. There seems to a problem with people who add fonts. On my PC with WinXP SP2 and Firefox 1.0 everything looks ok. I’ve checked and double checked my code and CSS so I am 100% sure that it is caused by adding some kind font on PC. So re-tracing your steps is the only option I guess.

dratz! I knew that would happen as soon as I buy a mini! Cheaper, and they have a 6 gb. oh pfooooey! Longer battery life too. oh pooop.
oh well, I still love my blue mini. :0P

Aye, I’ve been messing with fonts - I’ve gone tools > options > fonts & colours > and changed Proportional to “Sans Serif” ;-)
I guess setting a max-width on there would probably fix it.

@Olly: I think it’s more then that just changing Proportional to “Sans Serif since I tried it also on my PC and it didn’t do a thing. There is a width in there that’s the strange part, but no max-width so added that too. So check if it helps please.

Alas is doesn’t seem to have made a difference. Never mind eh? It still works.. :-)

iPod and everything is cool, it’s just the price that I don’t agree with. How can the price be the same in EUR (or even more) compared to US $ ??? I mean, if I’d want to buy the 4GB here in EU I’d have to pay around 33% more for it!?!? I don’t like this part of Apples’ strategies. :)

@Marc: I think you’ve made the traditional mistake of mixing VAT into comparisons. A 4 GB iPod Mini costs in the US store $199 and in the Belgium store 172,23 Euro without VAT. If you compare those amounts the iPod in Belgium costs 22,5 Euro more. Ok it is a little bit more but not 33% but 7%. All US products are a little more expensive in Europe just like European products are more expensive in the US. So it’s not only Apple I’m affraid :-(

I know I know, it’s just that I compared the EUR to SIT and $US to SIT and then got the result in my currency (SIT), as I live in Slovenia. And even if I’d want to buy the Pod here in our store… calculated to $US it costs around $362 US. I’m talking about the iPod mini 6GB. The iPod photo 60GB costs, calculated to $US, $654. :(
btw: 1 EUR = 240 SIT, 1 $US = 180 SIT.
