My Tiger wish-list
2004 at 02.35 am posted by Veerle Pieters
Today is the day that most of us Mac users have been waiting for. At 10 AM San Francisco time Steve Jobs will unveil 10.4 aka “Tiger”. Unlike last year there will be no broadcast of the event. Good news is that we have somebody at the WWDC and if luck is on our side I should receive live updates through iChat/iSight(?) and will post them on my blog. In its boldest move to date Apple is already displaying some banners at the WWDC which sends a pretty clear picture about Apple’s feelings towards Microsoft upcoming operating system.
The banners, which are the first known items that show the new Tiger graphics, read: "Introducing Longhorn." "Redmond, start your photocopiers." "This should keep Redmond busy." and "Redmond, we have a problem.". Those that find Apple not direct enough should also be pleased now ;-)
So here is my wish-list of features for Tiger.
- seamless switching between ethernet and wireless without connection interruption of mounted servers.
- the possibility to sync bookmarks of different browsers with iSync
- a scrapbook feature in Safari similar to the scrapbook function in I.E. 5 on Mac, a handy tool to keep web-pages if they aren't available online anymore.
- software updates available for third party software.
- themes but done the Apple way, subtile changes like a possibility to switch to a non metal look for example.
- color source code in Safari
- Safari sidebar would also be nice as seen on Jon's website.
- A CSS/XHTML editor with icons you want to touch
So what's your wish-list for Tiger?

* Rock-solid windows networking.
* Stop putting ._ and .DS_Store files all over server volumes - especially those mounted with SMB.
* An option to never ever display anything but plain text in Mail.
Hmm… that’s all I can think of for now :)

a big one for me is for Finder to support SSL so that I can mount webdav volumes that only accept an https connection. and from talking to my local apple rep, it sounds like my wish may very likely be granted. we’ll see.
3
A better Finder, with at least cut & paste support like in Windows (I really miss that). Furthermore support for extra file information in the Finder like EXIF or resolution of images. More preferences alltogether!
4
It looks like MacRumors will also have a live feed of the WWDC. (May all your wishes come true.)

You ask for a CSS/XHTML editor… Two years ago I wanted the same thing, got tired of waiting, learn just enough programming to actually build my own.
It’s far from perfect or even complete but I can do whatever I want with it ! :-)
