Miguel Migs - 24th Street Sounds

2005 at 01.40 am posted by Veerle

Time for some music now, when browsing through the ITMS recently I saw that iTunes Music staff added an album that I bought in 2004. NRK’s Nite:Life 20 Miguel Migs - 24th St. Sounds. I think it is about the historic, tree-lined street known as El Corazon de la Misione, or ”the heart of the Mission”. Miguel has been on my top list for a long time and after meeting him in Ibiza for a chat the love for his vibe only got stronger. This laid back down to earth guy gets me moving with his latest example of the sunny, jazzy, funky music also known by some as deep house.

Miguel Migs - 24th SoundsThe Naked Music dude knows how to create positive energy and that vibe is felt all over the album. You can't get enough 24th St. sounds on the condition that you're in a good mood or have nothing against being put into one. For me these are well needed sounds especially when you're experiencing the lousiest Summer as far as memory takes me. The album contains a selection of deep and smooth tracks from the likes like Migs himself, Crazy Penis, Rasmus Faber, Kerri Chandler, Fred Everything, Audio Whores and others you can't go wrong.

A bonus cd contains various gems from his work between 2000 and 2004. Petalpushing, Lionel's Jam, The Remedy, Satisfied and Bump Selecta, all tracks that found a place in the boxes of the world's greatest DJs. This bonus cd is in the ITMS but if you want them both you'll need to buy it at Amazon for example.

A sample of the cd 1 for your listening pleasure!

Miguel Migs will be missed by me when he does his sets in Ibiza this summer, especially now that Defected has moved shop to Pacha. But luckily I have my music with me thanks to my little pink buddy :-) I recommend a peek in the iTunes Music store if you're into Latin House, Jazz, Disco and Funk. I only recently discovered that another one of my favorites Julius Papp is also from San Francisco. God, I dig this Naked music stuff so there is more to come for sure ;-) First on the list the lovely Aya!

Hello, Music lover! :)
Speaking of house, just wanted to tip you on a tune that’s imo one of the greatest ever! I’ts a bit embarassing to say that the white has been out for a year and i just found it, but what you want is this: http://www.juno.co.uk/products/153933-01.htm

Thanks for the tip, I now await my package from Amazon. If you ever need any tips about heavy rock or country, all you need to do is ask, they play little else on the radio in Northern Wisconsin :(

@Johan: That song is one of my favorites too. I love songs that are based on an oldy. Seamus Haji is on the roll lately, you have to check this remix that he did for Axwell - Feel the vibe (Seamus Haji Big Love remix) or his version of Last night a DJ saved my life.

@Adrian: I’ll let you know when my taste has shifted ;-)

If it wasn’t for the BBC Online Radio, I think that these rednecks would drive me nuts with their music. Otherwise they are decent enough even if a little beer marinated.

It was by chance that I ran across the naked music web site.  I probably spent two hours or so listening to all of the samples.  I absolutely love Always by Lisa Shaw.

Keep sharing and I’ll keep listening.

Deep house simply rules. Migs’ music is just too chill for words.

Thanks again for that defected promo cd !

There is an album of this cool dude called Colorful You which I absolutely consider the best I’ve heard from him. It actually contains a lot of cool downtempo tunes (something like rnb). Very nice.

Thanks, once again, for the tip. There were delays with Amazon and I wondered if it would ever show up. Today it arrived and is currently shaking the walls.
Cheers!

@Boob: I already bought the mix in the iTunes Music Store a while ago, it was a pre-release tip there. Thanks for the tip anyway ;-) There are so many different genres within one specific style, I know, but I like to keep it simple and just call it Deep House. Makes it a lot easier for people who haven’t a clue.

Hi Veerle, nice site!

Can’t believe you got to meet Miguel Migs, that’s awesome.

I’m loving the Naked Music label too. Into the ‘Bare Essentials’ collection at the moment. Transient, by Gaelle is worth a listen too, great album.

Cheers, AJ.
