MacWorld Live
2006 at 10.52 am posted by Veerle
The Live coverage has been reworked into an article.
Retail Update
Like always the keynote started with a little update on the retail side. Apple now has 135 Shops around the world and those stores had 26 million visitors during holiday quarter. For the first time those stores had their $1 billion quarter this past quarter.
iPod/iTunes
The iPod is without a doubt still going strong! 42 total million iPods have been sold since the first release. 2005 has been a super year with 32 million. The iTunes Music Store has now peaked at 850 million songs. The current day rate is 3 million a day and iTunes has a 83 % market share. We all know that Apple started selling video content in October, so that’s about 3 months and in that time 8 millions videos have been sold. You could say that’s a success too. Steve also announced a new gadget for all current iPods namely a remote control with FM Tuner. A new radio screen has been added in software part of the iPod to tune radio stations. It costs $49.
Software
Mac OS X 10.4.4 should become available and will contain an array of updated Widgets.
iLife 06
Let’s take a look at the iLife suite. iPhoto gets a performance boost and the new limit is now set at 250,000 photos. iPhoto also gets full screen editing with fade in/out tools at the bottom and compare functions to find “best” photo. New book printing with much higher quality (now word about Europe for these things). You can buy calendars with your own photos (options for auto-fill, photos for each date, comments, and more. iPhoto also adds cards for sending photos. Photo Casting is also new. PhotoCasting is a feature that automatically updates the internet-based albums when you update your albums in iPhoto. You can set private/public albums with password protection and users can subscribe via RSS to albums to automatically receive word about your update. You got to have a .Mac account. All nice but I love Flickr and there is still no Flickr integration.
iMovie
iMovie has new animated themes with realtime effects/titles. You now can have multiple open projects. Your project can be exported to iPod and you are able to create a Video Podcast. Looks like a decent update to me.
iDVD
You guessed it… iDVD is next ;-) iDVD now has widescreen menus. The best news for many will be the news that 3rd party DVD burners are now supported.
Garageband
Garageband becomes as I suspected a podcast studio tool with Podcast artwork track and over 200 free jingles and effects to used in your recorded show. If like interviews you can iChat for remote interviews recording. Steve did a demo of Garageband and starts recording “Hi, I’m Steve, welcome to my podcast of Super Secret Apple Rumors” and I got some great inside sources at Apple :-)
So we have 5 apps within the iLife suite time to add something new:
iWeb
iWeb, a new application to share photos, movies, music, blogs, content… It looks very pretty and Apple will include templates. You can publish with one click to .Mac. Any browser will be able to view it. Wondering if it will be web standard safe :-) Apple goes with the hot stuff too because the slideshow viewer is AJAX based. Wondering if Dunstan has a part in it ;-) The App looks very much like Pages.
iWork 06
30 day free trial of iWork 06 with all new Macs. New features include 3D charts, several customizable shapes including new stars and polygons. Check out the website for all the info.
Hardware
Steve talked about his announced of Intel Mac by June and was wondering how we are doing. At Intel a team of over 1000 people worked at the project to make todays launch of the first Intel Mac possible. Many nights and weekend as a result but hey it finally here the first Intel based Macs.
iMac
It’s the iMac with built in isight camera, Front row etc. Same sizes as before only faster thanks to the Intel Core Duo, the chip with two cores, each one faster than the G5. The benchmarks show that the machine is an overall of 2-3x faster. Mac OS X10.4.4 is entirely native on Intel processor + all included applications are universal and native to the Intel processor.
All other Pro apps will be universal in March. If you have the latest version, you can trade in your disc for a universal disc for $49.
Rosetta runs great on the iMac and a demo with Office is shown. Microsoft BU will launch some updates to make sure everything runs smoothly. Microsoft is also committing to a long relation with Apple and signed a commitment for at least 5 years. They say “We’re here to stay and in it for the long term.” The new iMac is shipping today.
All other products will be transitioning through the end of the year. That a bit faster then I suspected.
One MORE THING!
Steve showed a PowerBook G4 and said we’ve tried to fit a G5 into the Powerbook. We’ve done everyhing humanly possible… A bit of a suprise is the name change but that’s because of the fact that the PowerBook 17” G4 is still shipping probably. The Intel based machine is called MacBook Pro. A dual processor machine with a 15,4 inch display that is as bright as the Cinema Displays. A new Power Adapter is magnetically held in so it comes only out if yanked. The machines have an iSight build in and also feature Frontrow. The $1999/ 2.179,00 Euro model features a 1.67 Core Duo and a 667 DDR bus, ATI Radeon X600. The $2499/2.729,00 Euro one has an 1.83GHz Intel Core Duo. They are up to 4 times faster then the G4 based models and I suspect they will sell like hot cakes. For starters our PHP programer Kenneth has already set his mind on one (it’s ordered already). The machines will be shipping in February. The new website looks very slick with the black and all. On my screen the grey text is very readable but I can imagine that some will find grey on black a problem.

still 0 comments on this one?
I’m DE-LURKED!
I WANNA BE THE FIRST! GET ME THAT INTEL IMAC… THAT INTAC… THAT MACTEL… whatever.
:*(
2
agree with sapo..
intel mac!!
3
Okay, first of all, I wish this entry would auto-reload. =-)
Second, I just bought my daughter a new iSight-iMac in November.... “Oh, if they just updated it, don’t worry....” Darnit!
Third, I wish the Apple site would get updated so I could see that laptop. =-)
4
ah but there’s also a PowerTel… an IntOok… whatever. give me that one too.
now the big question: when will be the ideal moment to buy a new mac? in one year maybe? I dont wanna beta-test this new hware.
Plus, I’m hungry, I’m going to eat (my liver).
ciao everybody!
5
Nice, very nice. I’ve been thinking of buying an imac, i’m glad i waited a bit. Dual core imac. The G5 was already pretty fast, and the dual core is 2-3 times faster? Cool.
6
store is up, but very slow :)
http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/ is looking sexy, but why did they drop the powerbook name? It was here for over a decade and a strong brand.
but still, damn great macworld.
also: delurked :]
7
i love the new macbook. i hate the site though!!!! what is with the grey text on black?!?!?!?! I had to increase the text size way up… and i’m not even an old-timer!
8
And they ditched support for the 800x600 screen resolution, bless Steve Job’s soul. I can’t wait to get my hands on a new MacBook, though it is a wee bit too pricey for me
9
I personally love the black site :)
And, boy, do those new Macbooks look sexy, I want one, my main laptop is a Pismo G3 which is still running Tiger BTW
Man, they are going to sell a shitload of these :)
10
Nice stuff. The price still is a bit high, on the Macbook (I still prefer the Powerbook name) . Just yesterday I was pricing out a new Windows laptop for the office and spec’d the exact same Core Duo processor as the high end Macbook, same amount of RAM, very similar video card and a slightly smaller hard drive. The difference: $500 less on the Windows laptop.
Of course it’s not the same thing, and Mac OS X kicks Window’s tail, but when budgets apply, price often dictates. And now that the hardware is on the same playing field, it makes the Mac decision not look as appealing.
11
I have to get one of these MacBook Pro-machines, even with that shitty name ;-)
12
Thanks for the commentary, Veerle.
Re the new name, PowerBooks referred directly to the PowerPC processor. Since they are no longer using it, I suppose they felt they needed to change the name. I liked it too, and will miss the Power part, but I see why they did it.
13
Ouch! I bought an iBook just a month ago. Sometimes Apple isn’t fair. :-( But that new iMac is on my wishlist, definitely!
And what about that crazy name? MacBook Pro? First of all, I liked “PowerBook” more than that thing, sounded cooler, and secondly I wonder if new iBooks will be renamed “MacBook”, without that “Pro”. Anyway, it’s just a name. A name for quite a nice product.
14
Well, thats not really true regarding the PowerBook name. The original PowerBook 100 had the old 680x0 processor. So that arguement doesn’t hold water.
MacBook may be just a way to keep the name Mac abound. The PowerMac, and the MacBook. So, will they change the name of the PowerMacs when they get Intel chics? like the MacMac?
I will be upgrading, but not til maybe August.
15
Will hackers now turn their eye to the new Intel-driven Macs and try and run Windows on them ? Seems like a stupid idea, but some people are just plain crazy… Still, I’m wondering what will happen with these new additions to the family: bring Apple into the realm of main-street vendors and boost sales, or do them more harm than good ? Time will tell, I guess.
16
They might not have put Flickr integration in iLife, but they did add read-access of users/sets/tags/groups through photocasting: Flickr, Pixagogo, Smugmug, Fotothing, 23hq all support RSS feeds.
check Apple reinvents photocasting in iLife ‘06
17
Attempting to install XP will be the first thing tried by quite a few people I can imagine, so we should know pretty quickly.
However, they apparently use the EFI system and 32 bit windows won’t run on that normally, only the 64 bit winxp can use that, but these mac’s are not yet 64 (yet) *sigh*.
But I can imagine that Apple is less concerned about people running Windows on a Mac then people running Mac OS X on something other than a Mac.
And apple stock rose to 80.86 today. nifty :)
18
Ok, this year I have to get one of those MacBook’s. Now it’s a laptop/media centre, pretty powerful and consideribly small for a laptop with all that power inside of it. Something I have been looking for a long time.
19
Veerle, you may find FlickrExport fits what you’re after? I’ve not used it (rarely touch iPhoto, occasionally use flickr), but I have heard good things.
20
I got a chance to check out iWeb a little bit at MW and got a look at the XHTML source (you can export to disk), although I can’t remember if it was strict or transitional.
Apparently, the baseline template styles are in an external stylesheet and user changes are reflected in embedded and inline styles. Much of what is going on in the user-defined inline/embedded styles is absolute positioning and z-index attributes (CSS-P). I didn’t get a chance to look at the external stylesheet so I can’t comment on that.
For the most part these templates will probably work fine in standards compliant browsers but I expect they will not fare so well in IE.
21
Once again, Apple unveiled great products I think even if I’m a bit disappointed that Steve didn’t announed a revamped Mac Mini to plug on the TV (with FrontRow, DVR capabilities, ...).
For iPhoto: you can already print books with high-quality with iPhoto 5 but you have to tune some hidden parameters. Otherwise, some photos will look a bit grainy (I tested it from here, i.e., Switzerland). If you are interested, I can give you the details!
22
Got this from macrumors.com:
“That’s fine with us. We don’t mind, Schiller said. If there are people who love our hardware but are forced to put up with a Windows world, then that’s OK.
A remark made by Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide product marketing, answering the question whether or not it would be possible to install Windows on a Mac. But as I said before: who in his/her right mind would want to do that ??? Finally: does this mean we have to put up with BIOS screens from now on in these new MacIntelPowerMacBooks ?
23
But what happend to ‘prize reduction’????
24
Well, as far as I can tell, they pitted the single-core G5 against the dual-core Intels, using a benchmark suite _designed_ for performance tests on multi-core/multiprocessor machine. Seems a little bit unfair to say the least. You will not see speedups of 2/3 times when your app uses a single core. Rather, you will get the possibility to run two jobs simultanealously, more or less halving the time to run them sequentially. From the SPEC website:
“This metric measures a system’s capacity for processing jobs of a specified type in a given amount of time. Note: This metric is used the same for multi-processor systems and for uni-processors. It is not necessarily a measure of how fast a processor might be, but rather a measure of how much work the one or more processors can accomplish.”Thus the statement made by Steve is just not true. I do believe the Intel may be faster when running a single app, but it won’t break speed records imo. And unless the OSX apps are fully threaded and able to use both cores, you won’t see speedups of the factor 2-3 times.
25
Prices “reduced” in getting more bang for your buck. more eohw! for yr euro ;-)
I’m drooling. But having just bought a PowerBook G4 in June (12inch), i’ll stay with it for three more yrs. It is a screaming little machine. And with the new 10.4.4 very fast....
26
Macbook with fries and a cola please:)
27
Yeah, I dont know abouth the name. Macbook..?? Nothing beats Powerbook I think.
28
“But as I said before: who in his/her right mind would want to do that ???”
There are a lot of windows people who think the mac is goodlooking but can’t get used to the macos. About 80% who turn from windows to macos turn back to windows. They can’t get used to it. And it’s probably the same the other way around.
Stating “who would do that” just shows your bias for the macos.
29
My Titanium Powerbook is looking very dated now! I like the idea of this new MacBook Pro, it doesn’t matter that it’s Intel as long as the TV ads don’t have that really annoying Intel tune every time they mention the name! (or is that just in the UK?)
Thanks for the keynote live update - I tried to get the news quicker than you were supplying it, but couldn’t find anywhere more up to date!
30
Just a thought, but has anyone ever wondered what the ‘i’ in iMac stood for in the first place?
Another point i noticed, that know one else is talking about, the Old (but still great) G5 was a 64bit chip, these new intels are only 32bit. The main reason for them being twice is fast is because their are two cores instead of 1. Will be interesting to see if the new MacTower Pro (i hope i’m joking here) has the same chips as the new iMacs, or the 64bit (Intel Itanium?) version.
31
Just a note on the iPhoto / Photocasting / Flickr battle…
I just added a “photocast” and gave it the URL of my Flickr RSS stream, and it worked - as if they designed it that way. The photos in the RSS appeared as an album, and gave me the option of saving them locally when I went to delete it.
Looks like its a basic RSS reader built into iPhoto now!

koen said: “About 80% who turn from windows to macos turn back to windows. They can’t get used to it. And it’s probably the same the other way around. “
You have data for that statement? At our shop the five programmers who were mac haters, were given powerbooks for a project they were working on. After three months they “booted” their pc workstation off their desks. they only use the powerbook. and i could go on. the last four conferences i attended all the cool presenters were former pc users who were beaming as they talked of their new pb. once you use a mac you never go back unless it’s for a specific program...and the nonly for that. you keep the mac. I finally think that the tide is turning. MacOS is just better. period.
34

“once you use a mac you never go back unless it’s for a specific program”
Come out of your zealotry world. Not everyone thinks the way you do. The period at the end is arrogant. Search google for people who switched back to windows.
I prefer linux btw. I don’t care about the war between macos and windows. When I read comments of some OS (w,m,l) zealot it makes me roll my eyes.
36
@koen… not a zealot at all buddy. i work on unix, win, and mac os. experience. period ;-)
37
I think the new products are really nice..
want to see them in real how the really work… but a little bit srry, that the MacBook isn’t available in an 12” version , 15” is a little bit too big for me ;-) Hopefully it will be available in the future.
about the name ... it’s not the best.. but PowerBook is just for the PowerProcessor-based books reserved I think
iLife 06 is just ordered.. and I’m waiting to test it hopefully it’s as nice as it seems to be.
38
@Marilyn Langfeld: I think the name change is there because you can still buy the PowerBook and they will coexist for a couple of months.
@Marc: I think it is a safe bet that the iBook will be renamed to MacBook. The Pro desktops Mac is a bit more difficult and no I’m not going to guess what it could be ;-)
@Raven: Personally I would be very glad if we had the choice of a dual boot or that you can switch between Mac OS X and Windows (like a fast user switch) if I want to test a website in IE. If Apple plays this smart it could even a good argument of buying a Mac. An yes the new Intel Macs use a BIOS screen, not much different from Open Firmware.
@Peter Forret: That sounds cool, so you could use iPhoto as your aggregator for pictures if I understand correctly.
@Pat Allen: I already use FlickrExport and it rocks but it would be cool if Apple build something even better in iPhoto. I think they see Flickr as competition.
@cpk: Thanks for the insight.
@Andy Georges: I think we have to wait until those machines are shipping before we have some real world proof. Steve is a cool guy but I always take his statements of x faster with a grain of salt.
@Koen: I’m sorry but your statement that 80% switches back doesn’t hold any ground because if it would be true you should see that being reflected in the amount of machines that are shipping from Apple and as Jobs told in his MacWorld keynote and backed it up with figures the hardware sales are rising quickly too. On 18th January we will know all the details when they release the quarter results. And you can’t accuse me of being a zealot because I work on both platforms in my daily life. Look in my archive I bitch on Apple too if they do something wrong. You clearly don’t get that owing a Mac does something to your inner soul. You get emotionally connected with it while it is still a silly piece of hardware. The statement is true once you have a Mac you never go back. I choose to work in the most creative environment that exists today and that’s Mac OS X on good looking hardware and that inspires me to be more creative. You will not understand this I’m sure ;-)
@Zach Chadwick: Thanks for confirming this. I think this is kinda cool.
@vanni: That’s pretty much what I suspected. It’s hard to make such a WYSIWYG and deliver solid code. Maybe 2.0?
39
It’s not because hardware figures are rising that people don’t go back. since more people are using a computer more computers are being sold that also means more macs are being sold. The people going forth and switch back between win and mac (both ways) can keep level, while more people buy a mac and didn’t have a computer before.
Btw, being a bit critical never hurts. Would you believe it if Bill told you windows is gaining field on the mac? Probably not. But you do believe a similar statement about Steve?
Be critical people!
I agree that mac has the best looking hardware. But I can’t believe people still say people don’t switch back on from mac when there are plenty of stories of people going back to windows (and vice versa) on the internet. Google is your friend.
“You clearly don’t get that owing a Mac does something to your inner soul.”
Definately no zealot. But I don’t care how much of a zealot you are. Fact is, people DO switch back.
Insulting me with “you will not understand” etc doesn’t change the stories you can find on the internet.
Wake up.
40
@Koen: I’m going to insult you again since you don’t seem to understand the term zealot, it refers to someone who is blind and doesn’t see things in its perspective anymore. You can be passionate about a brand but that’s a big difference instead of being a zealot. Well if I were one them for starters Apple could do NO wrong which I cleary I already have proven in the past that this isn’t the case because i have criticized them publicly . Also I still write a silly piece of hardware not very zealot isn’t it? I said in the comments to Andy that I always take Steve Jobs with a grain of salt.
And about the switching back prove instead of just saying it, come up with some hard facts. It is true that some switch back but not nearly the 80% you are claiming. The fact that more people use computers is lame you are talking about 80% that should be noticeable very quickly. You don’t own a Mac but you have an opinion on it. Talk if you work/own on both daily please. Not everything Apple does is great a quick example would be the 3rd party support in iDVD, that’s something they added in iLife 06. Should have been there from the start. I could go on…
41
Where is my opinion on a mac?
To recap: I reacted against someone who thought it was unimaginable someone would put windows on a mac. Some people prefer windows. Some people also prefer the design of a mac. Put those two together and you have people who like to combine what they believe the best of two world. Is that so hard to imagine?
The 80% comes from reading someone who mentioned a study. I don’t think you understand what was meant by it. If 10 people buy a mac and 8 of them switch back than 80% switched back.
100 people bought a computer in 1990. 90 of them windows. 10 mac. Of those 90 there are 10 fed up with win and try a mac, and of those 10 8 switch back, this happening during 10 years. In 2000 150 people have bought a computer. 25 of them a mac.
See how more macs are being sold, how it’s market share has grown, but still 80% switch back? That’s not too hard even for me.
42
@Koen: You are talking about the late 90’s, come one Mac sucked really hard back then. I even thought about switching because of the state Apple was in since I had doom dreams about Apple going out of business. Those figures don’t hold any ground if you look at the lifespan of Mac OS X. You don’t have to be very cleaver to understand if what you are saying was still true then research firms, analists etc would already have proven your point and would no longer consider Apple stock as a buy option. Just look at the proven facts of the Apple store. Store visitors nearly doubled over the past year, from 7.8 million in the 4th quarter of 2004 to 14.8 million in the latest quarter. The figure was an increase of 21.8% over the previous quarter. Apple CFO Oppenheimer has repeatedly said “over 45%” of Macintosh buyers at the stores are new-to-Macintosh. This is something that has been going on for a few years and that why Apple is doing so well again. If 80% of all those new customers are leaving again well then Apple would already be in deep water.
And we didn’t even take the press coverage of such a thing in considuration. If it was really so that would create an unbelievable negative spiral for Apple. 80% is huge and it would effect stock price etc. And do you really think that your 80% would be so silent that nobody picks this up. You’re must be joking.
43
I just said the 90’s to give some time frame. Make it ‘99 if you prefer that. It really doesn’t matter. The example was there just to prove that apple can easily gain followers, have an increasing market share while there are some people who still switch back to windows. Who knows the switching back had its peak 5 years ago with 80%? Does the 80% actually really matter in the discussion? Not for the point I was making, but some people displayed a need to attack that figure instead of focussing on the discussion.
Also, mac is doing great largely because of the ipod, which is a big factor in getting people to move over to mac. That’s only recently. And in 5 years we’ll see the results of that larger switch.
44
@koen: The fact remains you have made that 80% claim don’t try to weasel out of it. If you say something make sure you have hard evidence to back it up. You clearly don’t have any because everything you add isn’t backuped by facts. That was what the dicussion was about you said that most of them are leaving again because they can’t get used to Mac OS X. Again even we forget your 80% claim you should see evidence of that. No respectable research firm has proven your point.
The iPod is one factor but there are others too like for example the fact that people are fed up of dealing with the Windows. The growth is not only coming from the iPod. For Apple to grow from 2% to 4% it has to double the sales of hardware and that’s difficult and certainly not possible if most of them are not content and switch back as you claimed. You should see that immediately. Remember that the first iPod was launched in 2001 that’s 5 years ago not really recent as you call it. It was an instant success and still is but it is not enough for Apple to survive. Hardware and software is still a major factor.
And in 5 years we’ll see the results of that larger switch.
It doesn’t take 5 years to see evidence of that, if many people leave or join you’ll notice that in one quarter easily and certainly in a year.
45
“Again even we forget your 80% claim you should see evidence of that. No respectable research firm has proven your point. “
Do I need to point you to threads where people say they reverted to win or do you think you can find them yourselfves?
46
Do I need to point you to threads where people say they reverted to win or do you think you can find them yourselfves?
Please do and make sure that there is proof of a respectable and well know research firm that backs this up. It’s not hard to find somebody that has switched back but it is a lot harder to find evidence of your claim that it is happening in very large numbers. Prove this to me instead of just blowing air. A few links to some posts will NOT do. I need a well documented research study so that we can put this to rest. Don’t try to change the discusion by saying that some switch back after all you said it was happening in larger numbers and I just want proof of that.
47
@koen: do please provide creditable proof either from a market research firm or a respectable survey. Embrace yr friend Google and see if he can help you out. I would also be interested in finding any good study that examines the growth or lack of, of the Mac OS platform. I will admit that all i have as “proof” of the gaining popularity of the Mac is based on the number of people in our department who have not only made the switch...they have “booted” win off of their desks. Now having said this I am sure that windows will continue to enjoy 80-90 of the market for some time to come....but i will bet the farm that it will drop to 75% by the year 2010. to paraphrase a song..."first we boot I.E, then we boot MS “.... Koen please use whatever platform you wish. And use it in good health. ciao....
48
The claim was that there ARE people who would like win on a mac (and prefer win to mac). This 80% was to support that and, as you keep insisting, is probably wrong. Does this make my claim wrong? Absolutely not. My main point still stands and I let the 80% fall.
For one person who went back to win: Russell Beattie.
49
@Koen: Next time when post something think twice and make sure you can back it up with proof otherwise don’t post it. Is more then silly to write about 80% and when you can’t back it up trying to weasel out of it. I suggest reading and listening to Apple financial results on the 18th January. That’s what I call proof. I hope you learned something here.
For one person who went back to win: Russell Beattie
Guess you didn’t read the part where he said he did it just to pull people’s chains. Just for your reading pleasure here is the quote:
The most apt comment I saw was, “I think this guy just likes pulling people’s chains, which is mostly true. I don’t swim upstream solely to do so, but I make an effort to pick out the times when I am swimming upstream already and write about that.
It’s not difficcult to create some controversy. A person like that will not be missed by me. Remember the saying “one swallow does not make a summer”
50
What are you trying to do here? I give you an example of someone who switched and you say “oh, but he only blogged about that because it would generate traffic”. That’s lame. Clearly your goal here is to bring out a war while mine was only to make a point about not all favouring mac.
I thought you learned a lesson yourself when in some post you wrote “some go back” after first having said “once you own a mac you never go back”. Guess I was wrong.
51
@Koen: I don’t want no war you are the one here who posted information that’s plain wrong with your 80%. Please read again and don’t put words in my mouth. In my comments I was trying to explain what my personal feeling is about owning a Mac and in my particular case the statement is true I would never go back and so it is for the majority of switchers. It not because one person does go back that the statement isn’t true anymore as long as the largest part still stay on the Mac. Again you try to avoid the real isssue here that YOU started this all by misinforming the public with facts that aren’t true at all. That’s the what you should have learned here.
52
This is the 3th time I say that this 80% is most probably wrong.
I cannot count anymore how many times I have said what the issue was for me: NOT the 80%. The 80% is most probably wrong.
First, in your first post you didn’t say that “once you own a mac you never go back” was for you personally only. So don’t try to weasel out of that. But you said in the following up post “some come back”, so that’s ok with me.
The real issue, once again, is that some users prefer win on a mac. You don’t need text-analysis to see that the 80% was not my main point. By the way, did I tell you the 80% is most probably wrong? YOU made this the main issue.
If you happen to know some logic: I tried to prove a statement with some premisses. One premis was wrong. I didn’t need to have this premis to prove the statement.
Now someone comes along who misreads my first post and think this wrong premis is the real issue instead of the statement that was to be proven.
And one more thing: to prove that there are people who go back to windows, it is enough to show some who did. You are wrong if you think that this is only proven when the majority goed back. Logical rules aren’t decided by a vote from the majority. Maybe a lesson you can learn.

@Koen: My point is crystal clear don’t post things that aren’t proven. If you didn’t do that troll thing with the 80% comment all this wasn’t necessary. If it was not your main point well then you shouldn’t have mentioned it . And for the record IT WAS my personal feeling that I described because as far as I know I can’t look or tell what others feel about the subject. The difference between you and I is that if I was 100% sure that the statement fits the bill for everybody then I would have linked to a study that backed it up. Now I only told my personal feeling about owning a Mac. Please open eyes since I just replied to what Vanni originally posted, remember he was the one who said “once you own a mac you never go back” not I and I confirmed that it was true in my opinion after I tried to explain to you what owning a Mac does to one. If you don’t get it that’s your problem I guess. I don’t weasel out of anything here. I’m not the kind of person that posts things unless I’m 100%sure they are right. Never in any comment I stated that no one switches back. You on the other hand find that it is ok of just throwing a figure in there for the sole purpose of making it a bit bolder.
In my book that’s a no go! Case closed.

@Koen: I said it was closed, so your last comment is deleted and I mean It that it is closed.

Hey Veerle,
Just a quick note on iPhoto books. I’ve already got myself a book last year using iPhoto5 here in Belgium, no problem. It looks realy cool, but some photos are being compressed too much I think when they are being send, they get a bit grainy, while the hi-res picture was originaly much better.

@Halans: Thanks I am going to try it soon. Let’s hope that the improved quality is coming to Europe too.
