Living on Ibiza

2004 at 08.38 am posted by Veerle Pieters

House on IbizaIt has been a while since I posted something on Ibiza. If the weather sucks here in Belgium for a long time sometimes my mind wonders off and imagines that I am living on Ibiza where it is 26 degrees Celsius and sunny at the moment. Most of the time, Belgium is nice and luxury standards are pretty high. Always a thing that I start missing when being away from home for a long time. Only a minority on Ibiza is doing well, probably the club owners etc. If you look at these figures you’ll understand what I mean. Tax return figures from this year show that in Ibiza 80% of the population have declared a taxable income of less than 21,000 Euro and over 50% have declared income between 6,000 Euro and 12,000 Euro. Not much is it?

Salaries. Government employees are still moaning about how little they receive in salary once the high cost of housing on the island is taken into consideration. They say that people doing the same jobs in Lanzarote get 480 Euro per month more than the pen pushers in Ibiza.  (source: Ibiza-Spotlight.com)

Sometimes these kind of statistics are needed to wake up from a daydream.

Most of money earned in Ibiza is going to foreigners who comes in the summer and leave after the summer. I worked on Ibiza myself in the year 2002, it was the worst thing i ever did in my life (i lost all my money) but i felt great.  Ibiza is the ultimate daydream
