KBC Online on Mac… UPDATE!

2005 at 09.05 am posted by Veerle Pieters

A quick update that we made some positive progress with the KBC since my previous post.

There is a temporary solution to make KBC Online work on Safari if you follow these steps:

  • step 1: Delete all cookies of KBC in Safari
  • step 2: Surf to the KBC site and you’ll notice that there will be a “Geen gebruikers gevonden” message instead of the usual login window. Click on the first link (“klik hier”), the applet will search for your key.
  • step 3: Login to your account

I’ve tested this and it WORKS! For now there is a but involved and that is that it only works as long as you don’t log out. If you log out you have to repeat these steps again. I’ve got the promise that KBC is very near a definite solution to make Safari work. You can count on me that I will follow progress very closely and update here once I’ve got more info.

I’ve just tested it, and indeed logging in is no problem anymore.
But I tried to transfer some cash into an another account and I got a javascript popup asking me if I was sure I want to transfer that amount.
And then ... nothing happened - unfortunately.

@Karen: Are you sure you’ve deleted all the cookies (Safari preferences, security tab, show cookies)? There are several, I think I’ve got 14 of them. My test was with Mac OS X 10.4.2 with all the Apple software updates until now and Safari (2.0.1 (412.5). Try repeating those steps again.

I too had been infuriated many times by KBC’s lack of support for Safari (Netscape indeed sucks!)—so, many thanks for these tips. It worked for me as well! :)

I’m using Firefox on Linux, and KBC Online is working happily overthere. So I don’t see why it shouldn’t work on a Mac. The big dependency is the jvm you are using, it should be Sun’s.

@rm: Java on Mac is from Sun.

On linux I’ve tried it on several gecko based browsers, mozilla,firefox,epiphany,galeon, all worked.
Don’t remember whether I tried Konqueror.

I’ll try later to get it working on my powerbook, and get back. Maybe I’ll try Safari as well.

@rm: Did you read the post clearly? It works in every browser with the exception of the wire transfer part. So did you actually transfer some money?

I do al my wire transfers, stock orders, ... via KBC Online under Linux, I don’t own a Windows machine anymore. And yes, it works and has for over a year.

Now for Safari, I succeeded in making it work - didn’t try to transfer money though.

setup:
/Users/.../KBC-Online/bcm/bcm.ini
/Users/.../KBC-Online/bcm/....key
/Users/.../KBC-Online/bcm/Dummy_km.key
/Users/.../KBC-Online/bcm/Dummy_sig.key

the content of bcm.ini:
———-
[BCM]
KeyFileDescription=...xxx…
NewUpdateProgramVersion=
NewUpdateProgram=
KeyFiles=/Users/...xxx…/KBC-Online/bcm/...xxx….key
Forgetit=
BankPubSigFile=Dummy_sig.pub
SOCKS_Proxy_Addr=
KeyFileUserIDs=...userid…
Field3=8,32,abcdf
Field2=4,6,ach
BankPubKeyFile_Backup=
Field1=7,8,ac
Line_Delimiter=
VersionInfo=002001001002002002002001001
MiscParms=1,0,1,1,0,1,0
Language=nl
KeyFileDescriptions=...xxx…
KeyFile=/Users/...xxx…/KBC-Online/bcm/...xxx….key
HTTP_Proxy_Addr=
LogFile=bcm_err.log
BankPubKeyFile=Dummy_km.pub
———-
ps: the stuff surrounded with ... should be replaced with your personal info

I stripped some of the details, in the bcm.ini - for my privacy, if I’ve stripped too much, just tell.

Now, the things are wrote down above are not officially endorsed by the KBC. But I once called Bolero and the same practice should work for Bolero.

bye,

a few notes:
- no deleting of cookies needed
- I have to manually push the “aanmelden” button to log in

ok, did a transfer between my current an savings account.

It did not work under Safari - blocking on the Javascript, like mentioned earlier.

Under Firefox 1.5 Beta 2 it did work.

Still have the following issues:
1) Pressing enter at the login site doesn’t work
2) When transferring money and the popup comes, after confirming nothing happens…

Good thing to bring this up! Hopefuly they will lookinto this. I’m tired of using an old Win2K portable do do homebanking.

It seems that it keeps working, I just need to go to https://www.kbconline.be instead of http://www.kbc.be So no cookies need to be deleted anymore. It just involves one extra click.

KBC-online also works with camino and with omniweb (very good browser)
javaembeddingplugin.bundle and MRJplugin.plugin (java - plugins) installed in the library/ internet Plug-ins Folder.

why should we attempt to make it work? Isn’t this the job of KBC?

@Jeroen: They made it work now in Safari 2.0 on 10.4.
