I’ll be speaking at SXSWi and @Media 2006

In my 2005-2006 post I talked about about two speaking engagements. Well now that cat is out the bag I guess I can talk about it here ;-) My first trip of the year will be to Austin Texas for SXSWi. You can imagine how much of a surprise it was when my mailbox contained an invite from Nick Finck.
Some of you may know Nick from the excellent Digital Web magazine and the many articles that he has written like on a A List Apart for example. Nick asked me if I wanted to join a panel about “Starting Small: Web Business for the Rest of Us” on Saturday, March 11. Also on this panel are Leonard Lin, Matthew Oliphant and Michael Buffington. I’m a SXSW virgin so I’m sure I’ll get a buzz out of it.
The next one is a little closer to home and will take place in June. Then I am off to London for the bigger and better @Media 2006. First I have to say that Denis Radenkovic has done it again with the superb graphics of the new website. I love it and you all know that I am a big fan of colors ;-) I was just recovered from the SXSWi invite and then Patrick Griffiths send me an email if I would be interested in joining a design panel. When he told me that my colleagues would be Jon Hicks and Cameron Moll my excitement levels went through the roof and left me stunned. You know talking about being in great company, such an honor!
The list of speakers is amazing, such quality: Thanks to Molly I’m not the only lady there phew :o), Dan Cederholm, Tantek çelik, Eric Meyer, Dave Shea, Andy Budd, Patrick Griffiths, Robin Christopherson, Stuart Langridge, Patrick H. Lauke, Gez Lemon, Ian Lloyd, Simon “Yahoo” Willison, Jon “Teddy Bear” Hicks, Jeremy Keith, Peter-Paul Koch, and Dean Edwards, Cameron “wicked worn” Moll and sharp dressed looking Mr. Andy “Malarkey” Clarke (just look at his cool picture) and last but not least my Swedish friend/talent Roger Johansson, hope you bring Pernilla ;-)
Boy this year is starting supercharged. I’m soooo looking forward in meeting all those people and feel small in such great company. I’m sure it will sell out quickly, so get over there and register now. The UK has the Brit pack and I"m not a chauvinist but I’m glad that finally Belgium will be on the web map too now :-p I’ll do my best to make my country proud :-)

Veerle,
You’ll do just fine even if you were the only woman there. But it’ll be that much cooler that both you and Molly will be heading up the Female’s.
But really, what a fantastic group. It’s really going to be something. Cheers to you for making such an all-star cast.

Veerle, I promise I’ll bring Pernilla along :-).

I missed this event last year - I hesitated too long and then it was too late!
This year will be different - I’ve just registered so hopefully will be there this time!
Really looking forward to it as it will be great to meet up with people who are as passionate about this web design world as I have become! (Some would say a little obsessed!)
Also looking forward to learning lots too!
Steve

Damn, now I’m interested!! Who is Pernilla? Is she Roger’s girlfriend, his cat or some kind of Swedish beverage?
Glad to see you both invited, I’m sure you’re going to contribute a lot.
8
Thanks Veerle, I’m glad you like the graphics on the new site :-). The list of speakers is fantastic, and l hope I’ll come this year too, so probably see you there!

That’s great news, congratulations !
I wish I will be able to go.
16
Congrats veerle, i’m really happy that you get the recognition you deserve and got lined up along the masters of the scene at @media2006. Too bad it’s out of my league for this year, make sure you get some events in EU in the future for i’ll be sure to attend some of them!
17
i’ll buy you another drink this time around then ;)
18
Thanks all!
@Molly: Yes it is exciting and I can only hope that I’ll be half as good at it as you :-)
@Jason Campbell: Yes it will be up before I leave I promise ;-)
@Reinier: You do not sound as you’ve underestimated me, heck I think I even understimated myself here since I still have a hard time to believe it :-)
@Patrick h. Lauke: Very much looking forward to seeing you in action with your super photographs skills. I may even ask some advice since I’ll own a Nikon D50 by then ;-)
19
congratulions Veerle,
I really like to come to @media, but I think my boss isn’t very interested in paying my entrance and after buying that new Mac this year its better to stay home :).
20
Hey! This a great news! I am not sure I will be there (financiale issue… ;-) but I will do my best.
21
Veerle, great to see you speaking at both SXSWi and @media! I hope to make it to @media, but unless your SXSW panel coincides with mine I’ll definitely be there to watch you!
Congrats :-)
22
Tsk tsk, no proper UTF-8 support? ;-)
23
ohh, i heard that you were a whore who like tagged soup up the arse…
your speaking… one more reason not to go…
24
Congratz! I’ll be there! What does it cost :s?
25
Congratulations, Veerle! I’m very happy for you… You’ll be a great addition to both conferences.

Go Veerle, show them where Belgium is on the BlogMap ;-)
If it would not cost that mutch off money, maybe i would consider to go and hear you there (and all others too)

I’m sure you will do an admirable job Veerle. Speak for the rest of us and yes put our country back on the map. Finally Belgium is not longer only about about chocolate and beer (yummy...)
Btw make sure to bring some chocolates for the other guest speakers ;)
