Ibiza - part 3

2004 at 03.45 am posted by Veerle

Well as always, Ibiza was a holiday full of fun, relaxation, joy and excitement. Just hanging around there can give me inspiration, because when you mind details you’ll always see something inspiring. Especially the contrasting combination of the old part of Ibiza town and the bars along the marina is kind of unique. You have this very old part on a hill and the trendy bars and people downside.

One of the main traditions on the island is the use of ceramics. You see it practically everywhere from house numbers, to toilet- and bathroom walls or nicely decorated sunset bars like at Café del Mar, Savanah or Café Mambo.

Besides this I like the holiday spirit of that island, it's like just when the sun goes under people are starting to live. Having dinner around midnight is just normal or heading to a club at around 4 or 5 a.m. is also just common. When our cab drove us back to the hotel around 5.30 a.m. hordes of people (around 200!) were still waiting to get inside Pacha, unbelievable.

Too bad nightlife starts so late, or shall I say so early in the morning :-S If you enter a club around 2 a.m. it's all just starting. When I was 16, I entered a club around 8.30 - 9 p.m. and went home around 2 a.m. What a contrast!

Ibiza is the world's epicenter of music. Lovers of house and dance music will definitely have a time of their lives. I especially like the Balearic sounds and the revival of disco, soul and funk. Speaking of that, Defected supplied me with 2 limited edition samplers of "Defected In The House, Eivissa '04", including 10 groovy songs mixed by Andy Daniell. It's Defected newest and youngest talent, only 19 and really promising. I'll be giving them away here on my blog later on ;-) Maybe combined with a music competition who knows to make things a little interesting.

Ibiza is full of life, 24 hours around the clock. Make sure you have this in mind when you are planning to go there. But don't get me wrong if you are looking for peace and relaxation it's there too, in the form of rural tourism and of course in the off season period where temperatures are still pretty much enjoyable. But for me this year was surely dedicated to "get down!" ;-)

Ibiza sounds like a fantastic escape for anyone who knows they’d want to go their. For years I wanted to visit for the well-known DJs and parties. What did you think of all the people also traveling?
