Pretty special date today as it is 8/8/8. According to the newspaper lots of people want to marry on this day as well but there is also another cool event if you’re into photography. I’m talking about the ‘24 hours of Flickr‘.
24 hours of Flickr
I joined last year as well and the event was a huge success with almost 20.000 members joining. Browse the 2007 pool to see how people documented their day. I'm sure this year will be no exception. I'm already thinking what I could do with my one time chance.

How can you participate?
Take a photo any time during the twenty-four hour period that’s August 8th where you are and then share it with the group. Flickr will accept one (1) contribution per member into the group from noon PST Friday, August 8th until Tuesday, September 2nd, noon PST, 2008.

You can join the pool here and start thinking about your shot too. It's raining here now but that shouldn't stop me of coming up with something :)
My contribution to 888
I bought these slippers in 2003, and they're still my favorite. Thought of taking a picture of them today because of the good memories and me missing Summer a bit on this rainy day here in Belgium. Oooh! Blue skies are coming back now as I type. Thing is, the weather is so unpredictable: it goes from rain, to cloudy, to sun and blue skies, then back to rain, cloudy, blue sky and sun and so on...

Now this is fun! I take a picture of myself (speak: my outfit) every day anyway.
Thx for the tip. (I kinda like these quick pointless internet events)
XO & Cheers, Raphael :-)

Hm, what’s also cool is that 8+8+8 is 24.

Wow, thats an awsome, idea, too bad I didn’t hear about it in time to participate. oh well perhaps next year :-D
Thanks for writing about it Veerle.

I wonder if the marriages on 08/08/08 are some (stereotypical) guys hoping to remember their anniversary date in the future. (Like: ‘um, was it 07/07/07? 06/06/06- wait! it was 08/08/08!)
Perhaps these same couples could ‘time’ their first child to be born on 09/09/09, and their second on 10/10/10, third on 11/11/11, etc.
Personally, I am saving for my ‘if I need to remember an annual date’:
08/09/10 (2010, that is…)

Couldn’t agree more, the slippers are utterly beautiful, and so is your photo. I really like the flickr action idea, sadly I was too busy to participate this year, but hopefully I’ll have some time next year.

Damn ! Wish I’d known about this in advance. Looking back at the pictures on my digital camera I could have submitted a picture of . . . let’s see, some rain ! More rain, or even more rain.
Some people call this summer !
