Design means so many different things for so many different people. I remember many years ago when I was designing a logo, a client said “Can’t be that hard, just let the computer do the magic”. Yeah right! What started as a simple desktop has become a meme… Oh no! Call 37signals, it wasn’t me, it was Jon :D

Well, after a month of wanting a t-shirt that said, “I’m a designer, I don’t read”—sarcastically of course—I came across these desktop images. Thank you all, they really made me smile.
Is everyone really getting the humor though? Some desktops remind me of muzak.By this I mean, without opinion and too warm and fuzzy to get any angst out.
They are beautiful, don’t get me wrong, but I’m jealous you haven’t had a client say to you, “Well, just make it look pretty, we’ll do the rest.” (You know. . . designers don’t read, write or proof, remember?)
If you did, I know they would have some bite. : )

Thanks for the compliments folks! :) Happy to see so many people joined in :) I had fun going through the Flickr Designer Wallpaper pool. It looks like it got a bit out of control… and I’m not sure who to blame for that, Jon Hicks or Shaun Inman, or maybe even Luxury Luke for starting this pool :) These unexpected ideas are always the most fun.

Now, just in case the anti-aliasing of the fonts is a little messed up, I’d better explain something: On the weekend my beautiful LCD monitor gave its last glow, ever. So right now I’m stuck on an old CRT monitor, which since I paid for it in 1994, has gotten somewhat blurry and unreadable.
So, can you forgive me? :P
