Cows Going Wild in Switzerland

2003 at 01.37 pm posted by Veerle Pieters

The classic Swiss postcard scene picturing a happy, brown cow with a bell around its neck munching grass against a backdrop of Swiss mountains is no longer as idyllic as it seems. Swiss cows have developed a mean streak since being left alone in the wild under a new rearing technique, raising the risk of attack for the unsuspecting rambler. As part of a new rearing technique, Swiss farmers are allowing their cows to roam the countryside for months at a time. Under this complete lack of human supervision, the cows have rediscovered their primal instincts and, as a result, they have become more aggressive towards people and dogs.
