Album art on steroids

2005 at 03.20 am posted by Veerle

My buddy Simon already posted it but since there’s bound to be people here that didn’t know about this little gem I posted it here too. Without a doubt the most freaking cool way to browse your album art on a Mac. This is the kind of eye-candy that sits proudly on my Mac screen. If you have a Mac too download the technology demo here.

CoverFlow, The coolest way to browse your album art

I’ve just downloaded it and I have to agree .. it looks marvelous. Woo .. it will take ages to download 1400 album covers I guess ..

Great job - kudos for the creator.

Yeah i got it yesterday, I saw it on Hickdesign sidenotes.

It’s a great piece of eye candy, I’m hoping that in future I’ll be able to access shared iTunes libraries on a network, because at the moment most of my music is stored on a windows box.

Some more eye candy using your album-art: JewelCase from Optical Alchemy. It doesn’t automatically download the covers though, it uses the albumart embedded in your iTunes songs.

@AkaXakA: I love the HedKandi collection: both the music and the artwork. Check out jason-brooks.com. He made a lot of the artwork. Just in case you didn’t know ;-)

Raven: I know, I’ve been collecting the artwork from several places - I should have all published work ever.

It is an amazing bit of work. The first thing I thought of was wouldn’t it be a cool way to flick through your bookmarks!?

If they come out with something like that for a PC, which I’m sure they will eventually, then I’ll be sure to get it

I’m still running 10.3 :(
It said in the future support for other versions of OS X might come, hopefully it’s true.

Really, really, cool!
It actually made me listen to some music I would not have picked earlier by title simply by getting intrigued due to the cover art :-)

Ah, a new dimension to my music experience ...

Very cool.  I wish they would combine this with this album widget idea. [ P.S. The groups not so great, but the concept is pretty cool].

Anyway, it would be great if CoverFlow also contained liner notes and lyrics, if they were available. But otherwise, what a great way to explore music. It had me listening to albums that I’ve just been overlooking for the last couple of years, and that was great!

Gotta love useless utilities that look ultra cool ;)

It doesn’t look like something I’d use very often except for when I want to show off Tiger when a friend is here but it’s nice nevertheless.

It’s however not very stable, at least not on my dual 2.7Ghz G5 box with OS X 10.4.2. I had several crashes in a couple of minutes.

Hey Verrle, I noticed on your Flickr page that you’re still using CoverFlow.  My CoverFlow timed out months ago.  Is there a permanent (not demo) version of this software available now?  If so, where?  Thanks!
