I would like to share some insight on a piece of CSS I’ve used for the homepage for a website a while ago that I’ve built together with Roger Johansson. I’m talking about the hover effect on the 4 tabbed boxes shown on this page.

Say, you want to draw a tree in full Spring, a very green one. Not just an outline you want details too so that you actually see the leafs. Unless you have a ton of time on your hands or you’re paid by the hour, it would be a hell of a job to draw each leaf one by one. This would be one of the many situations where the Symbol Spaying Tool can be of assistance.

Do you often have to create a page filled with the same business cards, stickers etc. nicely arranged ready to go to the printer? You know you don’t have to copy and drag them “manually” on the page. There is a much smarter way of doing this…

Implementing the title element in your ExpressionEngine templates is easy once you’re getting more familiar with the EE tags. For those still learning the first steps in EE, this will help you creating nice dynamic titles. I also share a tip on how to avoid a messy title bar in case the URL is broken. Learn and enjoy! ;)

Today’s tutorial was a request by Kirk from Smallest Photo. As you all know, the way I do or show it isn’t the ‘only’ way, it’s just my way and I’m open for any other tips or suggestions. As always I had fun doing this and I’m always happy to share stuff like this. So here it goes…

First of all, I’m back! The move went well. However, it’s a bit chaotic here. A lot of boxes still need to be unpacked. I tell ya this takes more then a Spring cleaning :) I’ve gathered too much stuff over the past 12 years. Oh well, at least I am connected already :) I thought this was a good moment to share a small but useful EE tip. Before ExpressionEngine version 1.5 there was this problem when people didn’t enter the full URL of an article page, EE loaded a rather messy page. Since 1.5 it’s easy to make sure all broken URLs don’t get a 404 error page or a messy page.

I’ve been terrible busy the last couple of weeks. Mostly because business has never been that hectic and we’re also on the verge of moving to a new place. A lot of time goes into arranging stuff you have no idea :) If things go as planned I’ll be moving boxes and furniture in about 3 weeks from now. So I haven’t been able to write much or prepare for another in-depth or step-by-step tutorial. Hopefully you don’t mind that I share the following short Illustrator tips with you…

My recent tutorial about creating pattern backgrounds sparked some questions from readers if I could do the same for something that is referred to as “grunge”. The pattern tool is ok for repeating items but the grunge look gets it effectiveness just from the randomness I think. So I think it would be better if I show you how to make a grunge brush instead. I know several of those are available for download but there is nothing more rewarding then creating your own :)
