Today’s topic has been on my mind on several occasions but I always postponed writing about it. Something that happened on Saturday triggered this again. It’s an example out of the real world. One of those things that is on our to-do list is some new office/house furniture. So we visited a design shop and after some looking around we kinda found some great ideas. Before making a final decision we thought it would be a great idea to have some interior advice to see if all fits well in the available space.

Plastic surgery on 456 Berea Street :D

Oh man! Never let me design something again for somebody who’s into accessibility, those guys are a major pain in the ass… JUST KIDDING!! :o) Maybe there is a little bit of truth in the fact that it is more difficult to design something really nice and take as good as all accessibility factors into account. So it was quite a challenge because I also had restrictions in what I could change and what I could not…

Most of you will already know that I use Expression Engine as tool for my site (further referred to as EE) and that I enjoy working with this tool mainly because of its flexibility and user friendlyness.

Netsquared project part 2

22 comments 2006 at 12.27 am posted by Veerle Pieters

As promised this the sequel to our chat about the Net2 project that I finished a while ago. In part 1 I talked about creating the brand/identity for NetSquared so if you didn’t read it,  I suggest that you go there first to get a better understanding about the project. This part will be about the creation of the website. Once you have the final logo and colors beaten down you’re all set to start the design phase of the website.

Expression Engine updates

Work has been using up most of my time lately but I finally created some time to do a little work on this blog. Sometimes there are moments that you would like to drop everything work related and just play in the sandbox that this little blog is. When this blog launched in this design on March 1st I told you that I still needed to do some work. Well the first thing that I took to the drawing board are the search results and advanced search page. Before today these pages we’re still in the default look that you get when you install ExpressionEngine.

NetSquared project part 1

Regular visitors will know that from time to time I write about some projects that we worked on. So today I like to introduce NetSquared. I was very excited to jump into this project because it was one those occasions that I had the opportunity to create a brand/identity from scratch. This involved creating a logo, stationery, style-guide, brochure and a of course a website. To me personally a first impression in what kind of company you’re dealing with starts by looking at the logo. Maybe that’s because of my job, I don’t know, but that’s where my thinking pattern always starts.

Design phase of my new blog

First something that I must say before starting the series about the conception of this blog. My head is still spinning from all great comments and praises that I have been receiving. This caught me by surprise you know, but I can’t deny that it feels great. All that support means a great deal to me ;)

So I’m planning on describing all the stages that my blog has been undergoing till the final launch, and today we will start from scratch. So let’s hope you are interested in this behind the scenes invitation.

Div thinking cap

Time for a bit of CSS styling fun! When working with CSS you need to have the ability to analyze your layout and see how you would place your div containers. That’s what differs from working with a classic table layout. You need a whole different approach and think more in terms of containers. Stop thinking of how you’ll slice your layout, start thinking on how to put each graphic into a container… How much containers do I need without overdoing it?

A behind the scenes look of a new media project

Director has always been a bit of a low profile kid of Macromedia and now with Adobe buying Macromedia its future isn’t secure. Some even think that Director (the product that shaped Macromedia) is a possible candidate to get axed. But here at Duoh! we still are using it. And why not, it is the best tool for producing media rich CD-ROMS.

My business site rebooted

It has cost some blood, sweat and tears but it’s finally there. The planning for a new business launch was drawn 2 years ago but work got in the way of executing them. Designing your own portfolio/site is always difficult. After 6 or 7 revisions you could say that we were our own worst client :-)
