Sunday morning here in Belgium and I still have to pack our bags for the trip to Canada for Web Directions North. They pick us up in 3 hours :) That’s an example of how hectic things can get when you are trying to please clients by doing as much as humanly possible and tying up loose ends.

I know that you are there so don’t try to deny it. I’ve seen you hiding all this time but no more :) It’s De-Lurking time again, that time of the year to leave that safe place and come say hi to all of us.

The good folks of Web Directions North have just created an opportunity for you to get yourself a free ticket, as well as hotel accomodation and places on the ski trip. So if you want to come to Web Directions but feeling a bit nervous about the money, here’s your chance.

Almost six months ago we received an official letter that completely turned our lives upside-down. If we fast forward to today it’s safe to say that it was a roller coaster. Managing work with all this has been stressful because we had to decide so much stuff in such a relativity short period of time. Most people plan such a life changing event a year in advance.

The preparations for the big move have began and it’s now becoming clear how much stuff people gather over the period of several years. In other words high time to clear out some of our inventory.

It has taken a while and some serious thinking, shifting, doubting… but eventually I’ve managed to get a list of winners. You guys and girls certainly didn’t make things easy for me. It’s so great and rewarding to see all those creative minds here :) Never in my wildest imagination would I have thought that the quality of entries would be that high, I totally underestimated this ;)

Let’s do something boldly and step into the duoh.com time-machine. I’ve searched our archives and found some interesting material. I’ve first started to make my feet wet in the Internet world back in 1996. We didn’t even have a domain name back then. First a bit of history on how I discovered the magical powers of the Interweb :)

When I was playing tour guide for some friends here in Belgium, I was really disappointed that I couldn’t tell them that Belgium has a strict smoke free policy. When reading Peter Forret’s post from today I got reminded of something that me and my friends discussed also. I wasn’t sure anymore when the law of non-smoking restaurants would be in place so that one can really enjoy a meal without being disturbed by people who don’t give a damn about you still eating.

Sigh! When you have a huge pile of work it is not a good time to sort out hosting trouble let me tell you. But I kinda got forced into it because the site had been down twice in such a short amount of time. There were moments that I wished that I was on the beach away from it all! After some research and the real good experiences that I already had with the folks at pMachine (now known as Ellislab) I decided to park my blog at the most logical place that I could think of pMachine hosting (now EngineHosting).

First of all let me apologize for the downtime earlier today. As it turns out there was some sniffer program on or watching the server to scan for passwords. Don’t ask me how it came there in the first place since I am not a technical person and I certainly didn’t put it there. It is the second time since the launch of my redesign that I had major down-time.
