France has its Eiffel Tower and we Belgians have our Atomium, a replica of an iron molecule with nine aluminum spheres. It was built for the World Fair of 1958 in Belgium. Its engineer André Waterkeyn came up with the idea in 1954 to celebrate scientific progress. The event was the first after the New York world fair and the first world fair for Belgium since 1935.

In case you are not interested in the history just watch the two movies below, but you should read it to brush up your history, I did ;-) Not many Belgians or others for that matter will remember that only a few days ago we remembered the start of the Belgian revolution. So our country is celebrating it’s 175th birthday.

Not so long ago I received a few e-mails from beginning designers who asked my opinion about the value of a designer versus a programmer. They said that they often got the reaction from programmers that a designer is less valuable and that the hourly rate should be much less then what a programmer charges.

An aspect of Duoh! that we didn’t talked about so far here is the creation of CD-ROMS. But first let us turn back the clock a little. It all starts somewhere in 1985 with a company called MacroMind. They released an application called Videoworks and struck a licensing deal with Apple in 1986 to put an “interactive guided tour” on every shipped Mac.

The most earth scattering news today is the announcement that Macromedia and Adobe join forces. My first reaction was, is this a late April fools?

Something fun for the Easter weekend is to create the illusion of a transparent screen. And no… I did not dismantle my PowerBook screen to get this as a result. I might be a little crazy but not that crazy ;-)

In my previous article about sleep we talked about the fact that there’s just too much living to be done with a direct result that we cut back on our hours of sleep. This brings us to the topic of today’s post.

First let me paint a picture of the thoughts that I had about Canada. I always assumed that Canada was a country that had great respect for its citizens, the environment and its animals. It is one of the countries that I’m planning on visiting in this lifetime just because of the beautiful surroundings.

Now that the weekend has past let’s talk about sleep. Do you also get the feeling that there aren’t enough hours in a regular day? I have that a lot, too many things still going on in my head that it is hard to wind down and prepare to go to bed. Normally I try to stop working around 9PM to unwind a little watching the big tube.
