Quick and dirty report on SXSWi07

25 comments 2007 at 08.47 pm posted by Veerle

This is Veerle reporting about my SXSWi 2007 adventures in Austin, Texas :) I can’t really believe that it is over already because it feels like we just arrived in sunny Austin. The flights to Austin via Chicago went very uneventful so that’s a good thing. Returning back home we had a one hour delay in Chicago, but because of favorable winds we made up some of that time. I really had a blast this year and here’s my story if you like it or not :)

Web Directions North, the story

Web Directions North is over and I am still sick, but at least I now had the doctor coming over and he prescribed me some medication. When we arrived in Canada we hang out with Jeremy Keith and Dave Shea and enjoyed the local coffee art as you’ll see when I upload my pictures. It’s really cool what they do with the milk. You got to see them doing it to better grasp it but they wouldn’t let us film it.

Web Directions North, not packed yet!

Sunday morning here in Belgium and I still have to pack our bags for the trip to Canada for Web Directions North. They pick us up in 3 hours :) That’s an example of how hectic things can get when you are trying to please clients by doing as much as humanly possible and tying up loose ends.

Speaking at Web Directions North

I’m just starting to settle in in our new place and the next exciting adventure already comes knocking at my doorstep. One of the countries that has always been on my to-go list is Canada, the world’s second biggest country with its 24 thousand kilometers coastline. Its great nature is one of the reasons I want to visit it. Now I have another, it’s called ”Web directions North”.

Just got back from Paris today. After @media London, we decided to travel a bit and go to Paris with Dave. It was an honor to speak on @media about design with 2 of my favorite colleague designers Jon Hicks and Cameron Moll.

SXSW wrapping up

I’m sitting in the lounge, waiting for the cab to take us to the airport. SXSW is all wrapped up for us. The city has been taken over by all those weirdo rock types joining the music conference. Too bad that most of the people hanging around are less friendly, and that’s a bit of a downer after all those hugs and vibes going on yesterday. It feels like you’re left with an emptiness. It’s back to virtual again ;) One thing is for sure SXSW is very good for networking and making new friends. Finally we can put a face to all those bloggers, designers and developers.

SXSW first days report

It’s weekend here in Austin and today is the first official day of SXSW. I’m finally starting to adjust to the time deference with Belgium. Our trip over here was so exhausting. We started with a 9 hour flight to Chicago followed by a 3 hour flight to Austin. To be honest I was kinda forgotten how hard it is. Times have definitely changed since my last trip to the US. I can’t remember exactly how many security points we have past but a lot, including one where you need to take your shoes off, laptop out of the bag etc. Understandable but still after being stuck on a plain for 9 hours a friendly talk or gesture could do wonders ;) Our trip was like 24 hours in total and we literary crashed at the hotel and went to bed at 9pm. At 3am we all woke up and after that we counted the hours on the clock ;)

Departure pending for SXSW

It is unbelievable how fast the last few days have been passing and I can’t hardly believe that as of tomorrow I’m on a jet plane to Austin, Texas. I had some ideal scenario in my head that I would have enough time to tweak some nuts and bolts on this site but that will have to wait until I get back. Between satisfying my clients and close running projects there aren’t just enough hours in a day. My RSS reader has 415 unread articles showing and it’s driving me insane so I just close it ;) I will get that number down on the plain ;)
