My body seems to have recovered nicely from all late evening excitement (in my timezone that is) from playing the previously announced live Layer Tennis match. A good night sleep can work miracles :)

This coming Friday is going to be something special. So what’s up? Well, I got an invite for the popular Layer Tennis game set up by Coudal Partners. I challenged my opponent like in the good old days by throwing my glove before her :)

As a way of saying thanks to all my readers I’ve created a Christmas desktop of with my favorite friend Geeky Dog as central theme.

Something that has been lingering my mind lately is the history of graphic design in Belgium or the lack off. It’s true that I didn’t spend days researching the web, but it’s obvious that something is lacking. There is as good as nothing to be found relating to the subject. It is impossible not to notice the impact of graphic design in everyday life so it’s there alright, but obviously nothing is online. A bit of a shame and a missed opportunity if you ask me.

It seems to be embedded in human nature to try to label things to identify it. Labeling itself is not bad, but I’m talking about making things sound more fancy or smart. It’s already hard enough to get everybody on the same line when using well known terms. It’s all subjective and everybody has a different vision or interpretation.

People really seem to like my Illustrator tutorials, but I do receive a lot of e-mail with one common question “How did you create those curvy lines used in motion trails?” The first thing that you need to master and become proficient in is the Pen tool.

It seems that my deadlines article has sparked an interesting discussion. One of them being an article entitled “The Tao of Deadlines” by Andy Rutledge. To be honest I had to look up the meaning of Tao (Taoism) to understand its true meaning. Hey, I’m just a simple girl and don’t believe in making things sound smart or fancy job titles as those aren’t making you a better designer. The strength lies in what you create and not in what you call it :)

It doesn’t happen that often that we receive an unusual project request. You know, *that* project that makes your eyebrows raise and where you need some time to think about it before agreeing to it. That’s exactly what happened to us a few months ago…

Picture this: you are sitting along the river in beautiful surroundings creating what’s bound to be your best work yet and you aren’t feeling pressured. Sounds lovely, isn’t it? Too bad it isn’t reality. Now there seems to be an almost impossible deadline around every corner.

Last week I linked to a cool new website called “A Brief Message” by Khoi Vinh and Liz Danzico, which features design opinions expressed in short form - 200 words or less. The first article there was written by Steven Heller and was about print being as good as dead. As always opinions differ and with this article I’ll try to write down my thoughts about it. Unfortunately I didn’t stick to the 200 words limit :)
