A new icon for Markup Validator S.A.C.?

Not sure about you other Mac users, but I only allow slick looking application icons in my Dock. Of course once the application launches it sits there. Call me fanatic, but every time I launch Markup Validator S.A.C. it itches to turn on hiding for the time I need it and then turn hiding off once the application is closed again…

Verner Panton, considered to be the most influential Danish furniture and interior designer of the 20th century has also created some very inspiring patterns during his career. You know by now that I have a healthy interest in patterns to analyze them and trying to come up with new ideas.

My first Duoh! website

I already talked about it a few years ago but since so much has changed here on the blog and many new readers don’t dig that deep in the archive I’m reviving this post inspired by Jason Santa Maria’s lastest post about his first website.

Adobe Community Help

Adobe is now shipping the CS4 suite so that means all new applications and new things to learn. Judging from the amount of questions that I receive about Illustrator or Photoshop there are a lot of people who didn’t discover the Community Help yet. It’s something new that was launched together with CS4. In the past it was hard to find relevant help, but this is a step in the right direction.

Inspiration series: Movie credits

For our next part in the inspiration series we point our direction towards the big white screen. For long time opening credits where just a boring obligated part. Luckily people start realizing that more was possible in the late 1950s and it became a form of art. There is one graphic designer that made several credits mini movies a work of art and his name is Saul Bass. He is solely responsible for a turning point in the movie credits world. What follows is a small selection of what I found inspiring.

My 10 favorite typefaces

As someone who has a soft spot for typography in general, it is a rather difficult taks to choose my top 10 favorite typefaces. It feels a bit like shifting through all those nice (600 and more) entries I received for the ‘What is Graphic Design’ poster competition from a while ago. What a tough job that was selecting the winners. So here we go…

Student illustrators and graphic designers working together

8 comments 2008 at 08.00 am posted by Veerle Pieters

Today I would like to share an interesting video (of 4 episodes) about 8 student illustrators and 8 student graphic designers (from the Art Center of Pasadena, California) who designed the magazine spreads in the theme of “Serious Play” for the Wrap Magazine. The interesting part in these 4 movies is the collaboration between individuals that have a different perception of each other’s job but managed to work together intensely. It’s such a valuable lesson because working together is like a red line throughout a career. This got me thinking about my student days and how different things were back then…

Inspiration series: Magazines

We continue the exploration of the offline world in search for that spark of inspiration. This time we are going to look at magazines. There are all sorts of them out there and some are better than others. I’ve tried to come up with an interesting mix of styles and topics to keep it diverse.
