Panther is spurring nicely! :-D

Panther is really what Apple promised! ... Since this morning I’m running Panther on my dual 1Gig G4 and boy do I like it! :-D Everything feels much faster and looks much crisper. This is SUPER :-) I measure my processor load through a Konfabultor widget (CPU Portal) and I see that it has dropped with half.

Tonight is THE Night!

Panther box With all this Panther madness going on I can hardly wait to get it spurring on my Mac :-P Yesterday I ordered my box at IT-Pro Gent… Tonight at 8 p.m. it’s “Panther Night” world wide!

I’m very glad that finally we can enjoy the events at the same time as in the U.S. This time we don’t have to wait and wonder, so this is really cool! I’ll collect my Panther box together with some of my Mac colleagues and I’m looking forward to this. I wonder how many people will be there at this store? But one thing will be for sure, there won’t be thousands like we often hear about when Apple opens a new store in the U.S. I think over there it will be mass-moving again :-D

I hear from a U.S. client that it is a big hype over there so I guess it will be huge. Shops will be open till midnight, here it’s till 10 p.m. Lets hope this will be a big success, but I’m confident that it will! ;-)

.. counting the hours :-P

1 million downloads and still counting…

Last week Sir Fester from Microsoft told us that iTunes for Windows would not be a success because it is too limited. In other words no support for Window Media Player files… I’m afraid that Sir Fester will regret his words because in 3,5 days there were over a million downloads!

Irony in Apple-Pepsi iTunes promotion

Does any Mac addict remember the Apple story from way back in the eighties when Steve Jobs wanted to convince John Sculley, president of Pepsi back then, to join the board of directors at Apple? One afternoon in March 1983, Steve Jobs, the brash 28-year-old founder of Apple Computer, stood on a Manhattan rooftop terrace overlooking the Hudson River.

A collector’s item?

Apple CEO Steve Jobs used a Dell PC at the launch event for the Windows version of iTunes at the Moscone West auditorium in San Francisco. “I’d like to do something I’ve never done before,” said Jobs. “I’d like to do a demo on a PC."… These photos were snapped by Frederic Larson of the San Francisco Chronicle. This isn’t news per se, but it’s something you’ll probably never see again.

iTunes for Windows now available!

Steve Jobs announced in his “trademark” way… “Oh one more thing! People thought they would never add it until hell froze over”. He said “this has happened. Yes, it’s iTunes for Windows XP and Windows 2000” :-) To say it in his words “iTunes for Windows is the best Windows app ever written, the best jukebox on Windows"…

I have tried other players on PC and none of them were as easy to use as iTunes on my Mac. And now Windows users can enjoy this great app too because it is exact the same program with the all the same features. Even the interface is Mac-like. Microsoft won’t let you burn MP3 CDs, unless you buy a Windows XP upgrade pack. But now with iTunes you can. It can even burn DVDs on Windows with extra large playlists.

Napster, iTunes… Who will win the race?

I just read this in an article (on CBS) that analysts say that iTunes for Windows may be just the thing for fans, it may be coming too late for the broader market. There are already similar services for Windows users, such as MusicMatch, already entrenched and another called BuyMusic.com. File-swapping service Napster has resurrected itself as a pay service, now under a parent company, Roxio Inc. BuyMusic.com went as far as to borrow the style of Apple’s humorous once with actors singing along with their music player against a white backdrop in their television commercials. What a nerve they have!
