Now that the weekend has past let’s talk about sleep. Do you also get the feeling that there aren’t enough hours in a regular day? I have that a lot, too many things still going on in my head that it is hard to wind down and prepare to go to bed. Normally I try to stop working around 9PM to unwind a little watching the big tube.

Yesterday our favorite CEO turned 50. Born under the name Steven Paul Jobs on February 24, 1955 in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
He grew up as a child in Mountain View and Los Altos, Calif., an area that later became known as Silicon Valley. Together with his friend Steve Wozniak he founded a company called Apple Computer in 1976 in Jobs family garage. In 1984 something happened that later had an affect on my personal life namely the birth of the Macintosh, the first commercially successful computer with a graphical user interface.
Jobs was forced out of Apple in 1985 but thanks to Gill Amelio who bought NEXT, Jobs returned to his roots. And we all know that since he’s back Apple is on the roll and the future never looked any better. There are even signs on the wall that Apple will get into PVR world by buying TIVO but that’s still a rumor so far.
So thank you Steve for all those wonderful years of Macintosh pleasure you have given me. Maybe a day late (busy you know the drill) but here is my happy birthday to you. I wish you many more “One more things” and continually innovating the IT Industry.

Good news from Apple! New iPod models have arrived today... which makes my pink mini model a little bit 'older', but hey, life goes on and that's how it goes with technology: always, bigger, faster, better etc. for less money.
So for those who have been waiting or doubting maybe now is the good moment:

By surfing some sites lately I’ve noticed that Safari’s pop-up window blocker sometimes fails. So after some closer examination it seems that it is not only Safari who is suffering. Most of the time it’s not pop-up but pop-under windows that get through. The first site where I noticed this behavior was macosrumors.com (they have disabled the perpetrator now). It seems that this is the result of new ad delivery techniques that seek to subvert traditional blocking systems.

Last week I worked on a website project that needed some illustrator refreshments. My client delivered me Word files for the content of the website. It included both text and pictures. The text is as always no problem, copy and paste and done with it… The pictures on the other hand needed some redrawing since most of them are bad black and white scans. In one of my previous posts I talked about how to redraw these kind of images in Illustrator with the Pen tool.

Yes it is no joke! Today at RSA, Bill Gates announced that there will be a new version of Internet Explorer before the much hyped Longhorn. It has taken all kinds of security leaks and bad press to move Microsoft of their big corporate ass.

The day gets its name from a famous saint, but there are several stories of who he was. The most popular belief about St. Valentine is that he was a priest from Rome in the third century AD. Emperor Claudius II had banned marriage because he thought married men were bad soldiers.

Something that I lost track of recently re-surfaced and by watching it again I remembered this emotional and beautiful tale so vividly. It’s a short movie about a troubled young woman that finds an unexpected surprise. The beauty of this masterpiece is that there aren’t any real actors in it since everything is in 3D. The short film is called “This wonderful life“.
3D is not my cup of tea but it features some of the most advanced and complex facial expressions I’ve seen in a non commercial film. Both technically and artistically an amazing job. The short film was made by Liam Kemp and took 23 months to finish. Maybe you did already know about this but if not I highly recommend watching it, pretty sure it will be the best part of your day.
PS: have a Kleenex nearby ;-)

Most of you have probably worked with the Actions palette in Photoshop before or have used the Automate Batch feature. Today, while working in Photoshop I figured, I’ll record my actions this way I don’t have to redo these steps later on. But then I wondered if it would be better to drop a style in the Style palette? You see, in a lot of situations these features are a God’s gift. It saves you heaps of time and you also don’t have to wonder how you did things to achieve the exact result.
