One of the daily things in my working routine is carefully planning projects. Planning is important, just to avoid unpleasant surprises, not only for yourself but also for the client. Mostly my week starts off pretty doable. A week is nicely filled with work but I always try to make sure there are some free gaps left. From experience I know that they will always get filled anyway.

Yesterday we had our first ‘real’ snow of this Winter. Obviously not as much as Dan from Simplebits, but still enough to take a little break from the computer. Only a few minutes away and yet a completely different surrounding, great for uploading the batteries of creativity. Hope you’ll enjoy my Flickr Winter gallery.

The past few weeks I have been finalizing a website project about MS (Multiple Sclerosis). Along the way I received drawings from the client that looked like scanned pictures from a fax… or something along those lines.

Yesterday in Ghent I attended my first geek dinner whoha! Always a bit of a surprise such a thing since you actually don’t know anybody there (at least not in person). The idea of the geek dinner was started by Erwin van Hunen and Cindy De Smet. It’s safe to say that it was a success.

Selecting the right font is a job on itself within the process of a project. For me, together with color it’s one of the most important parts of a design. Sometimes, or maybe more then often, we work on projects where we don’t have to choose this, because we need to follow housestyle guidelines. When defining a housestyle is part of the job, then selecting the right fonts is one of the things I start with. Even when I design a logo, finding the suitable font is almost the first step.

pMachine Pro is the CMS that this blog is using. After a year of great satisfaction I can safely recommend this to anyone who is looking for a tool to setup a blog. Eventually when time permits I’ll move over to ExpressionEngine because of its power and flexibility. But if you want something similar like my blog pMachine will do the trick.

Inspiration can come from so many things around us. Some people also get inspired by buildings, personally I’m more of an interior person. This might sound a bit strange. Well it inspires me indirectly of course. Working in a nice environment for starters can do wonders.

A few months ago my first Expression Engine project* was born (update: at this moment the site is not available anymore). Looking back at it I can tell this was another challenge for me. This was actually the first dynamic business website I’ve built entirely by myself.

Officially a day late (better late then never) but I only discovered this idea just now and found it too cool to let go ;-) Sheryl of Paper Napkin, the creator of De-Lurking Day launched this idea on her blog yesterday and basically it means “A special day celebrating lurkers, and exhorting you to muster the strength and bravery to click on that comment button and end the deafening silence.“
Today it’s time to come out of the closet and express yourself in my comments ;-) I know you’re out there, so cross that boundary and make me feel proud and fill up those comments. Say it out loud: hi I am ... and I am a lurk-aholic ;-)
(small) UPDATE : a quick calculation, most days I have around 1.000 - 1.200 visitors ... in other words a LOT of you out there won’t confess their ‘problem’ :-P So a triple digit shouldn’t be too hard to achieve since this means that only about 10% must dare to express themselves :-)
