The keynote was attended by more then 7000 people. When Phill Shiller came on stage he said “Apple Expo is going to be amazing”. He also talked about Steve that he is recovering very well and that he will be back at Cupertino in September. Apparently many Apple folks are thinking along the lines of September can’t come soon enough.

There’s much going on in the computer industry these days, for example on Friday Microsoft said it would cut back one of the major features that would make Longhorn a revolution “WinFS”. WinFS promised to be a smart file storage system that would make searching a whole lot easier then when using separate search programs. Apple will have a similar feature called “Spotlight” ready in Tiger in the first half of 2005. In the coming days we will also know if there will be cut-backs in “Avalon” Microsoft’s equivalent of Apple’s Quartz rendering engine. With all those axes they plan on getting it out the door in late 2006. In other words “Longhorn” sounds awfully like the good old Copland days. Copland was a much hyped Apple system that was never released.

Since using CSS to code the design of my webpages I came to the conclusion that less slices are needed compared to old-school table layout. And because of that I just crop and export my images right from Photoshop instead of FireWorks like I used to. For me this is faster and easier, since you have only 1 document instead of 2.

Hot news if you’re a big fan of DJ Tiësto and are living in Belgium or Holland. Some of you may remember that Tiësto wrote history in the Gelredome in Arnhem by filling a soccer stadium with 25.000 people. This was a unique event since he was the first to do this and the only DJ that played that night. As you probably know he has been chosen as the world’s best DJ for the second year in a row.

Finally I took the plunge and ordered my iPod Mini and guess which color ... Pink ;-) I decided to go for the Mini because I really like its small size and I don’t need all my songs on it all the time. Besides, 1000 songs is more then enough for me. When I’ll be using my iPod it will be for a few hours tops, not for days and days (of course that is me talking now… who knows :-D). And if I’m on holiday or on a business trip I have my PowerBook at hand, so I can switch now and then or use the On-the-go playlist feature.

UPDATE: Before we start part 7 I want to correct a minor mistake of mine, mea culpa. When adding blocks of text I told you to put this between div tags but that is not semantically correct. It should be between paragraphs instead. This way everything still looks fine when the CSS stylesheet is dissabled. Doing so allows you to use top and bottom margins to adjust the vertical spacing between paragraphs. This way we also don’t need to use linebreak tags anymore.

Just an announcement. I’ve done a small update on the comment’s page. If you hit the preview button of the comment form you’ll be immediately directed to the comment preview under the article, you don’t need to scroll all the way down to see it. Also if you click the comments link you’ll jump directly to the comments, also no scrolling anymore. Thanks for the tip AkaXakA ;-)
UPDATE : I’ve also added an “Add yours” link with a matching icon next to the “Comments” title. If you click on this you go right down to the form. And “look Ma” there is also a new update icon ;-) Enjoy!

It’s unbelievable how much has changed on my blog since it all started in September 2003. The biggest boast came with my CSS tutorial which you find in the tutorial section. So I want to take this opportunity to thank and raise a glass of Belgian beer on Douglas from Stopdesign and Jeffery from The Daily report for linking to my CSS tutorials and of course all others for linking to this site too. Too bad that I don’t have access to Star Trek technology otherwise I would certainly beam a glass across ;-)
