Who are my visitors?

30 comments 2004 at 02.36 am posted by Veerle Pieters

2 days ago I made a post about design trends to give you some inspiration and ideas and to lay out an overview of the different popular styles these days. One of my members, Reinier made this comment:

"great post, although these trends are (should be?) known to many designers already, it's nice to see them shortlisted here."

This made me wondering who my readers are. I'm not just asking this out of curiosity. One of the reasons I ask is because I was planning to add some more Photoshop tips & tricks in the future and to post about design in general. This way I get some kind of an idea whether it would be interesting to do this, and if so how advanced or how easy the tips should be.

So I'm just wondering, are most of you web/graphic designers? Would you be interested in reading some designer's advice in general or posts about design related matters?

Spring is in the air

Today in Belgium Spring has arrived. It’s official: this day will be marked in history as the first gorgeous day of 2004. Yes we had some sun already but never this warm. Today temperatures will climb to around 18 or 20° Celsius.  Kind of remarkable for this time of year and even better then the weather on my favorite Balearic island Ibiza.

50 million songs and still going strong…

Last week there was much talk about Virgin also launching its own music service and some of the journalists seem to think that Apple has to worry about Richard Branson.

I have serious doubts about that. The company is called Virgin Digital, and is developing its own digital jukebox and online music store with music delivery company MusicNet that will be available by the end of August, the companies said Sunday. Some years ago Richard Brawson also launched his own Coke and thought it would beat Coca Cola from the first spot but as we all know that didn’t happen either.

A lot of design trends are shaping the web right now. The more popular ones are:

Does size still matter?

When designing a website I always think of the graphical part first and I deal with all technical questions later on how to translate the design in to a real webpage as “light“ as possible. Of course even in the design stage I do think of the limitations and take them in account so I won’t get surprised once I start building my webpage.

How did you get started Blogging or are you planning to?

7 comments 2004 at 02.47 am posted by Veerle Pieters

I’m not blogging that long, only since September 2003. Before September I didn’t even know what blogging was, so you can say I am a newbie ;-) My dot Mac account got me started, as a member gift I got iBlog . At first it wasn’t that bad but then I updated the program to a newer version and everything went seriously wrong and I lost all my previous entries.

A Virtual iPod

5 comments 2004 at 03.18 am posted by Veerle Pieters

Apple’s mini iPod isn’t available yet here in Europe (in April) but in the States the little toy is an instant smash hit. When Apple announced the devices were shipping in February, the company said they already had 100,000 iPods on pre-order and now retailers are having trouble keeping the devices in stock.

Are you suffering from winter blues? There’s only one cure for that a dose of paradise. What flavor would you like exotic beaches, warm turquoise waters, lush tropical jungles or mystic ancient ruins? If you can’t plan a dream vacation today, you can at least enjoy a virtual getaway to paradise via QuickTime VRs. Start your journey in the Pacific islands of Tahiti, Bora Bora and Fiji.

Firefox put on a Safari costume

2 comments 2004 at 09.46 am posted by Veerle Pieters

If you want Firefox 0.8 to look just like Apple’s Safari you’re in luck, there is now a Firefox 0.8 Safari theme. Just a little bit of warning this is no stuff for the faint of heart since the process requires seven steps in serious modifying. It is for people who highly customize their machines and know what they are doing! There seems to be a demand for this since it already has been downloaded 10.000 times!!!! I am just the messenger so don’t shoot me if your system is acting funny.

A stamp for sending an e-mail?

7 comments 2004 at 02.56 am posted by Veerle Pieters

The theory is that you need to buy a stamp at a post office before you can send someone an e-mail. According to Bill Gates (in a CNN interview) this will be THE solution to fight spam. His reasoning is that you get spam because e-mail is now a free medium. To me it sounds like a typical Bill Gates idea, remember he also once said that the Internet will fail and look at where we are now.
