1 million downloads and still counting…

Last week Sir Fester from Microsoft told us that iTunes for Windows would not be a success because it is too limited. In other words no support for Window Media Player files… I’m afraid that Sir Fester will regret his words because in 3,5 days there were over a million downloads!

Irony in Apple-Pepsi iTunes promotion

Does any Mac addict remember the Apple story from way back in the eighties when Steve Jobs wanted to convince John Sculley, president of Pepsi back then, to join the board of directors at Apple? One afternoon in March 1983, Steve Jobs, the brash 28-year-old founder of Apple Computer, stood on a Manhattan rooftop terrace overlooking the Hudson River.

A collector’s item?

Apple CEO Steve Jobs used a Dell PC at the launch event for the Windows version of iTunes at the Moscone West auditorium in San Francisco. “I’d like to do something I’ve never done before,“ said Jobs. “I’d like to do a demo on a PC.“... These photos were snapped by Frederic Larson of the San Francisco Chronicle. This isn’t news per se, but it’s something you’ll probably never see again.

iTunes for Windows now available!

Steve Jobs announced in his “trademark” way… “Oh one more thing! People thought they would never add it until hell froze over“. He said “this has happened. Yes, it’s iTunes for Windows XP and Windows 2000” :-) To say it in his words “iTunes for Windows is the best Windows app ever written, the best jukebox on Windows”...

I have tried other players on PC and none of them were as easy to use as iTunes on my Mac. And now Windows users can enjoy this great app too because it is exact the same program with the all the same features. Even the interface is Mac-like. Microsoft won’t let you burn MP3 CDs, unless you buy a Windows XP upgrade pack. But now with iTunes you can. It can even burn DVDs on Windows with extra large playlists.

Pixadex 1.2, the icon organizer app

If you are an icon addict and have lots of them I’m sure you would like to keep a nice overview, so that you can easily find what you are looking for. Pixadex is to icons, what Apple’s iPhoto is to images. It stores and organizes all you icons in a smart way.

Napster, iTunes… Who will win the race?

I just read this in an article (on CBS) that analysts say that iTunes for Windows may be just the thing for fans, it may be coming too late for the broader market. There are already similar services for Windows users, such as MusicMatch, already entrenched and another called BuyMusic.com. File-swapping service Napster has resurrected itself as a pay service, now under a parent company, Roxio Inc. BuyMusic.com went as far as to borrow the style of Apple’s humorous once with actors singing along with their music player against a white backdrop in their television commercials. What a nerve they have!

Microsoft did it again!

Microsoft, which lost an initial 521 million Dollar verdict in August to Eolas and the University of California over browser technology, said that it will make “minor changes” in the way the Internet Explorer handles Web pages using ActiveX controls…

iTunes Music Store in Europe

0 comments 2003 at 10.14 am posted by Veerle Pieters

Why is it taking so long? Every time I read some news from the record companies about their continuous ramblings about their sales that have been dropped again I get frustrated. As I understand it, in Europe there are SO many different labels…

This artist was 2 years ago with this label, then now he’s under this label etc. so discussions all over between labels… If they only would come to an agreement somehow it would get moving and an iTunes Music Store would be possible and they would sell. But no, they rather loose time and money on all this arguing instead of thinking ahead and seeing all the advantages of working together and setting up some nice project like iTunes Music Store for Europe. People can be short minded :-(

Winter Changes at Ibiza

0 comments 2003 at 09.52 am posted by Veerle Pieters

Beach on the Island of IbizaWhen the last tourists leave the island at the end of October it springs back into life sprucing itself up and making improvements for the coming season. On the agenda for this winter are the modernisation of the port of San Antonio with pedestrian walkways planned, a new maritime station for ferry passengers, and a new bus station.

There’s even talk of a new sports harbour in the Ses Variades area by the side of the town’s famous sunset bars. Also the San Antonio Bay area will have improvements made to the main road thanks to the ‘Cala de Bou Plan of Excellence‘ which was finally signed this week.

The airport too will benefit from the spending of 18 million Euro, and passengers will at last be able to walk directly from the plane to the terminal as, amongst other things, mobile passageways, which roll up to the aircraft door, are to be installed.  (source: Ibiza-Spotlight.com)

2 Things to get frustrated…

0 comments 2003 at 08.03 am posted by Veerle Pieters

weather... Monday and bad weather! :-(

Look at this forecast, wouldn’t you get frustrated or agitated?

A couple of weeks ago I was at the beach and it was hot, really wonderful, 30°C! I left my towels in the car just hoping and believing that I would go back to the beach one of these days… but I guess Summer is REALLY over now :-(

But we can’t complain, we had the best Summer ever, it started in May already and it ended just 2 weeks ago. I remember it hardly rained where I live from the end of May till end of August, that is really exceptional.

And here I am, sitting behind my beautiful Mac listening to my CDs I bought from my Ibiza holiday… Thank God there is this nice music to keep me in the mood :-D And another comfort is that when I posted this it was only 22°C and heavily cloudy on my favorite Island too (Ibiza) ;-)
